What should i read first ???

If you haven't yet add Of Mice and Men (John Steinbeck) to your list!

will do !

A Tale of Two Cities. I think it’s a better start to Dickens than Great Expectations. Both have great characters & reflect Dickens’ London, but A Tale of Two Cities is set against a broader, more universal, and more compelling backdrop imho. And after you can watch the movie.

Have you read To Kill a Mockingbird? I think it’s something you would like as far as the other ones you go, just close your eyes and pick one.

i have not but i’ve always wanted to read it

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorites, as is The Scarlett Letter. I loved Orwell's 1984, but I hate Animal Farm... same message, different context. I can't wait to hear what you think of your haul!

@ChrisKindaReads I didn’t like Animal Farm either. We were forced to read it in high school.

@IAmLisaSalinas @ChrisKindaReads To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite as well. We had to read Lord of the Flies too.

@IAmLisaSalinas @ChrisKindaReads Oh. I forgot about that one.

If you ever decide to pick up a comic/graphic novel, make sure to start with Maus. A lot of people turn their nose up at graphic novels, but Maus is something special.

And your posts make me read all the comments, this is so fun and what the world needs. Who knew this young man could bring together such a group of people? Love the interest and the sharing.

As a old, retired used bookstore owner, I loved to see "kids" like you come in - full of wonderment and awe. It would make my day.😊 My favorite author-Steinbeck. Favorite of his books-"Travels with Charley"

My guy, I’ll send you copy of any C.S. Lewis book of your choice. Recommending Til We Have Faces or The Great Divorce.

what about “till we have faces?”.

Sent! Enjoy bro. Let us know if you like it.

You might go full on and do Crime and Punishment.

i already bought it. i’m buddy reading it with a friend in december

I hope you’ll read this. And thank you for the amazing recs. I must read Octavia E. Butler!

i should be reading this sometime this week

@AlmaC1100 im getting this right now woah

@ellelledeell @AlmaC1100 Just so you know Chris, in the movie he’s going to be played by Jacob Elordi but in the original book he was POC or Mediterranean and there are a few racist moments towards him! 🙏

@ChrisKindaReads @ellelledeell @AlmaC1100 Jacob Elordi's father is Spanish, so he has Mediterranean origins.

@ChrisKindaReads @ellelledeell @AlmaC1100 Elordi is yt regardless of his father being from Basque (who are classified as yt/Caucasian btw), and the movie likely will just cut those racial instances from the movie, but I felt it was the right thing to do to inform a POC reader new to this literature of what was coming.

@KareenLP12 @ChrisKindaReads @ellelledeell Think you can’t comprehend how small the Brontë’s lives were. Most likely they encountered Roma, who are also phenotypically Caucasian (Heathcliff is called a “Gypsy” in the book). The term “person of color” would make no sense to them. Race is a construct.

Once you start the Harry Potter series you won’t be able to stop

I once read every book that won the Pulitzer Prize in literature. Quite a journey.

i think i want to do the same

If you're gonna read The Odyssey, read The Iliad first. If you're gonna read Animal Farm, read 1984 after.

WUTHERING HEIGHTS!!!!! Great Expectations. 1984.

No matter which one you decide to start, the fact that you’re going with ACTUAL PAPERBACK Books~Is Absolute GOLD!!😁♥️ There’s a Special Enjoyment of Reading you get with Real books you’ll Never get with Online PDFs..And if you’re lucky, your nose will tell you the books age before your eyes do😉😁😂

A Tale of Two Cities before Great Expectations. Maybe read A Christmas Carol (fun and seasonal) before Great Expectations to get a better sense of typical Dickens’ characterization. Since you liked Frankenstein, I think you would like Stevenson’s Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The Lord of The Rings Trilogy is a LOT of reading. If you like that kind of fantasy realm you would probably really enjoy the books.

I love books like that. I love lore and deep world building. I’m pretty excited to read it

Next up I HIGHLY recommend the Redwall series. It’s about woddland creatures living in an Abbey throughout the generations and they go on a whole host of different adventures through the years. All the creatures have their own cultures and dialects and it’s got so much charm to it that you can’t help but love it.

So excited for you! I don’t think you can go wrong with anything in that stack! You could do an interesting comparison between Dickens and Harry Potter books. And just know they do get bigger as the series goes along! But they are completely worth it.

Check out Cry The Beloved Country about Apartheid in South Africa. I had to read it in college in the early 1990s and it touched me so deeply that I wrote such a great paper that I was charged with plagiarism and had to go to the Dean's office at Georgia Tech and provide writing samples and have other teachers vouch for me. Luckily I worked for another professor for 3 years in his Chemistry lab and he happened to see me writing the paper in between gas chromatograph readings. Cleared of all charges, got an A on the paper and for the class, plus a sincere apology from my professor. I still have the paper in a box somewhere! And I am going to read Frankenstein because of you!

Harry Potter books 1 and 2 are the shortest of the series. Fair warning: once started, you will not be able to stop. I read the entire series for the first time in 2016. Six books in six weeks, reading around a full-time job.

Great Expectations is so much fun, I really recommend it - lovely introduction to Dickens. Animal Farm is short but DENSE (if you know anything about Russian history it helps but if you don't, you'll learn a lot!) This video has cheered me up immensely! x

That earned you a follow bro. 😎 Good job. I love It is used book website. I am such a sucker for books. I routinely will buy a dozen at a time when I get on there. But I regret nothing.

I rarely post on X but I wanted to tell you I love hearing about the books you’ve read and getting ideas of books to read. Thank you for being in this space. Looking forward to your next review! Thank you!

@STARDUStDETROIT Always animal farm my friend. It is short, but it explains a lot. this was part of our junior high curriculum. I guarantee it’s not in schools anymore, unfortunately.

Have you read Pillars of the Earth? Fantastic read.

@SDSLLC_USA I'll throw in twenty bucks towards the purchase of a first printing of Tragedy and Hope by Carroll Quigley.

@SDSLLC_USA really? i’ll put it in my wishlist. i’ll gladly read it !

@SDSLLC_USA Yeah for sure. The plates to the first printing were destroyed. Supposedly subsequent additions are missing like 200 pages. Hope you have an enjoyable and cozy winter reading all those books. I'm studying some really boring shit for the bar exam.

Great selection. Maybe Odyssey since it's the oldest of them all.

Appreciate your posts! Animal Farm pretty on point for the current cultural moment, Great Expectations is an awesome next pick. Not like you need my advice😄but might be ideal to have your reading muscles in prime condition before the Odyssey, just helped my daughter read it last year and it was a whopper. Worth it though!

Knock out Animal Farm! Good luck! Love your page and you’re making me want to go back and read the classics. Nice work, sir!

I'm currently re-reading great expectations, so I want to say that, but I think you should read the one you started that gave you chills, because it sounds like you're especially drawn to it. If you don't read it first, your mind might keep wandering to it until you do.

Once you finish all the classics, look into the Dresden Files. He’s a private investigator who also happens to be a wizard. It’s got magic and vampires and werewolves and gods and demons and all sorts of stuff.

Go get 1984 after you read Animal Farm. You'll see how true those 2 books have become. I recommend Da Vinci Code too.

Hi Chris! @walterkirn and @mtaibbi do a book review every week on their X podcast America This Week. Their great!! You should give them a listen 👍

I'd say go for Animal Farm, it's short but so amazing. I'd leave Harry Potter books until the end because you'll whizz through them and then need to buy the rest.

Shadow of the Wind is such a great read There are 4 more books after - all a part of The Cemetery Of Forgotten Books I hope you love it as much as I do.
