This is what makes him such a great villain unlike most modern villains where there's always some shoe-horned plot twist to make you feel sorry for them. Gauron, despite his backstory leading to his worldview, just chooses to be pure evil and he stays that way right to the end.

Im convinced that the Lambda Driver does something to the pilots mind. Gauron was very much in control when we first meet him, and by the last ep of the season hes got squirrels running his brain. Then we had Behemoths pilot, who was quite disturbed.

He's a bad person who does bad things, and doesn't feel the least bit ashamed about having done any of it. Kind of a rarity in this day and age. I almost kind of admire that in a villain.

Probably one of the most Cathartic anime deaths ever.
