@RacunCintaaMu I assume we do not see all that burns here. First the tissue burns producing CO2, which evaporates, hence the loss of weight. But then the iron wool, that is hidden in the tissue starts burning. The product here is Fe2O3 wich is heavier no evaporation. Hence weight goes up.

An explanation that people should understand sir 😲

@RacunCintaaMu Yeah, when fire burns, the material incorporates oxygen, becoming heavier. So, unless a significant amount is lost to smoke, it will be heavier.

Paranormal Activist's profile picture

So that means they evaporate into smoke, right?

@RacunCintaaMu Compare final weight vs original. It is heavier in the end. In the middle it is simply fire's turbulence creating a lift.

@RacunCintaaMu The weight falls permanently because it is being burned up. Then it rises again at the end because it was also being reduced by there being an updraft that was holding some of its weight.

So the point is this is evaporation?

Chupi's profile picture
Chupi7 months ago

@RacunCintaaMu Not evaporation, there's not a liquid becoming a gas, at least not in significant amounts. It's combustion. Carbon, hydrogen and oxygen in the paper are turning into CO2 and H2O gases, and particulate smoke is being released.

@RacunCintaaMu Hmmm... Maybe heat from burning paper changed resistance of electronic components inside?

Paranormal Activist's profile picture
Paranormal Activist7 months ago

That's probably it, sis, it seems like the burnt particles evaporated.

@RacunCintaaMu In combustion, the carbon in the weighed material reacts with oxygen in the air, releasing CO2 (and CO) gas back into the air which reduces the mass of the solid material being weighed…

@RacunCintaaMu Heat rises, so the heat is essentially giving lift to the burning object hence the weight going down then going up when the fire goes out.
