Judging by the angle, it kind of looks like his left foot is stepping laterally or even slightly back and lateral, so while it is near foot near shoulder his force is not going directly into the target, but rather is just receiving the target.

More force as the answer to this question is true but I think removing the base of support is answer. If hes able to remove the base and keep him from rebasing he can’t move anymore. Using torque at the fulcrum (hips) to use force more efficiently instead just needing more force

If he hit ball carrier right on the hip I would if that would have done the trick

tried to catch him instead of driving his legs through the contact

I see his legs driving the entire time?

Oversimplified it’s a high tackle. Lowest hand is on the butt cheek. Contact is with the front/chest rather than shoulder (too upright) which isn’t conducive to driving him. Guy who said catching him is another good way to say it

So you’re saying the force he produced isn’t enough to stop the object in motion. Which is fine but I think there is another principle here that alleviates the need for MORE force, that can’t be the answer every time

If he wrapped the legs then the ball carrier would’ve fallen from his own force, like a tripwire, so there’s that too

I'm gonna look from an overhead view. Defender's vector is taking him mostly towards the end zone. Rusher's vector is closer to 45b degrees (I'm generalizing these angles a lot). If the defender could apply torque so their vectors were closer to cancelling, 8 think the runner...

Hard to tell what his left arm gets hold of, but looks like the RB is able to basically force distance and separate the wrap, negating the initial hit and letting him run through the newly soft shoulder

Too high

Josh Adams is just a big dude is what I would chalk it up to. Sometimes 6’2 225 with a head of steam is gonna win regardless of how flawless the technique is.

Lost leverage with his right arm?

Josh Adams is just like that?

Base is too wide. You generate more leverage in your strike if your feet start from under you, enables you to step TOWARD your strike point. Then the leg drive at the end would go forward, not running upfield with the carrier

Defender’s legs cross over when driving after contact, loses his power and leverage as soon as it happens.

Not a football player but I wrestled. After initial contact it's 33's whole body vs. just the LBs arm. Obviously 33 will win. Hips are very far away and there's no chest-to-chest. In wrestling id say the LB is too far away so he should change levels going for the left leg.

Tackled high and didn't drive thru the ball carrier.

It’s hard to generate force from an upright position because you get your force from the ground. That’s why being low is better. Think of pushing a large box standing straight with no knee bend vs leaning into the box at an angle. One is all back/arms and the other is everything

I feel like something is wrong with the base of his left leg initially but you can’t really see. But once he loses leverage/his base he should prob just fall (while holding on) to the ground or turn at the hips to create some force. Instead he just keeps trying to drive forward

leverage where?

I was just posting the GIF because your post made me think of it. But if I had to guess Kuechly was pretty fucked here when 33 absorbs the initial impact and LK has one his legs to close to 33 to be able to have any effective drive in that leg. Just a guess though.
