Wootz steel is the anglicised version of Ukku (ಉಕ್ಕು), the Kannada word for steel. Karnataka was the region where the best steel was being produced.

@sristi4 Oh yesterday I didn’t post much as I drove for 4hrs to attend an event and there was no signal there. So completely out of phone for nearly 8-9hrs.

Making Wutz Steel is a lost technology from Kerala. This knowledge was still available till British arrived. As the keeper of such knowledge refused to relay the secret knowledge gained through Parampara, they destroyed it. Such technology could not be mimicked again.

Yep the infamous Damascus steel which is hard to replicate, the ore is actually from Southern India. It was taken to Syria and forged there, hence the name Damascus steel. This is the inspiration behind Valyrian Steel in Game of Thrones.
