I used to split the check until I met Steve. He insisted on paying (despite earning less at the time) and planned all dates. His interest was clear. No hanging out m. Not friends. He controlled pacing the relationship. I found I respected him so much more. We married.

The young man should think about why he has to have so many first dates.

I think it's symbolic to a woman that a man has the capacity to take care of the bigger things, leaving her free to concentrate on putting her full energy into kids and the home. I think we can intellectualise it, but it's a biological imperative I can understand.
