@Gundisalvus I listened to NPR for more than 30 years until I could no longer put up with its blatant leftist bias. I turned it off for good in 2019. Since then, NPR has gone full Communist. It must be defunded!!!!

In 1979 I watched the McNeil/Lehrer on the coal miners strike. There were 3 union representatives on one side of the table and 3 coal mine operators on the other, with McNeil in the center moderating. You got both points of view. When McNeil dies and Jim Lehrer was alone, this objectivity began to change. When he retired and the broadcast became the News Hour all objectivity was lost in favor of left-wing socialist propaganda. When I saw what was happening I did not renew my membership in PBS. F**k em!

I wholeheartedly agree with Tim Burchett — it’s not a first amendment issue and the American taxpayer shouldn’t be paying for it. NPR and PBS have received annually approximately $535 million dollars from taxpayers. It’s time to cut them off.

President Donald Trump issued an executive order late Thursday night that instructs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to halt all direct federal funding to the nation’s two major public broadcasting networks – the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR). Patricia Harrison, the president of CPB, said in a statement that the corporation is “not a federal executive agency subject to the president’s authority. Congress directly authorized and funded CPB to be a private nonprofit corporation wholly independent of the federal government.” CPB filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration earlier this week after the White House fired three of the corporation’s board members. The executive order is also expected to be challenged in court. PBS CEO Paula Kerger called Trump’s executive order “blatantly unlawful,” while NPR CEO Katherine Maher said her organization “will vigorously defend our right to provide essential news, information and life-saving services to the American public. We will challenge this executive order using all means available.” The order came on the heels of reports the White House planned to engage Congress in an effort to rescind already distributed funds from the public media networks. The rescission request would affect USAID and the PEPFAR program for HIV/AIDS relief, among other programs. It also includes almost $1.1 billion in funds that were previously approved by Congress to support the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). CPB distributes funds to NPR and PBS local stations, which combine federal money and their own fundraising efforts to support the public media networks. CPB funding is typically approved two years in advance to discourage political influence over the budgeting process. Congress now has 45 days to act on the request.
