New Zealand makes sense - it's cold and far from anywhere snakes naturally live. Iceland is too cold, Greenland likewise. I recall that St. Patrick supposedly drove all the snakes out of Ireland, but Ireland isn't nearly as cold as those arctic countries, so you'd think vipers, grass snakes, and rat snakes could actually survive there. By that same logic, Norway and Sweden should be snake-free too - but they're not.

I knew right off the bat that Ireland, Iceland, and New Zealand are the only countries with zero snakes. Iceland has a very sparse population and can be ruled out. The population of Ireland and New Zealand are nearly exactly the same.
