The massacre in Bondi, Sydney yesterday was an abomination. Targeting Jews and any innocents is morally abhorrent. Full stop. Don’t let these heinous acts be weaponized in support of racism, demonizing Islam or backing the Israeli state. This morning I recorded a podcast episode to respond to the outrage in Bondi and those trying to exploit it. Fetterman warns a new wave of radical Democratic candidates is embracing anti-Israel rhetoric, saying too many in his party refuse to call out what he views as growing anti-Semitism: “The difference between me and some other Democrats is that I’m willing to call out these individuals and the absurd things they’ve said, along with the beliefs they hold. The one thing they all seem to have in common is contempt for Israel, and that has increasingly become outright anti-Semitism. The individual who just won in Colorado refused to describe the firebombing of a group of Jews who were rallying for Israeli hostages—an attack in which a woman was killed—as anti-Semitic. She refused to call it what it was. That’s the point. There’s a strong correlation between being intensely anti-Israel and drifting into anti-Semitism.
