Refs in every game possibly ever played will do this exact thing. As a defensive tackle I can tell you I heard from refs to get off the LS multiple times throughout just about every game I ever played This is very much standard issue and yes they will come down and nudge you over sometimes. This isn't too different from wide receivers looking to the ref to confirm their alignment when lining up on or off the LOS

Nah. The ref is protecting the snapper, making sure JC is not lined up on top of him. Same way refs tell WRs lined up outside to move UP or BACK off the LOS
