@DirectSeeding My question Dylan is how much moisture do you think all that stubble will take away from the crop with the rain?

@DirectSeeding Good question. I believe zero. But I could be wrong. I’ve only found positive establishment and yield benefits from residue so far (comparing to burnt spots etc). But I’m sure it will bite us at some stage.

New single just landed! take the journey

@DirectSeeding So satisfying seeing it slice straight through so much residue, does it ever get blocked?

@DirectSeeding Yes. Soft sand is its nemesis. Loves hard dirt. In soft sand we have to reduce press wheel pressure by lifting bar frame up a bit. Also some maintenance (shimming discs every 1-3000ha) to keep gap between double discs minimal

@DirectSeeding That is Art in motion 👌🏼

@DirectSeeding It’s certainly aesthetically pleasing. This is on a sharefarm. They’ve done a lot of work to reclaim this field from salinity. I’m glad the residue retention will help keep that management going.

@DirectSeeding Nice Dylan. Is wheat on barley common? From my exp it’s a lot better than wheat on wheat (assuming volunteers are controlled).

@DirectSeeding Not common. I’m trying to phase out imi barley so I can do it more often though. This is a paddock of maximus stubble. I’ll have to rather deliver it as feed if I can’t blend it with the paddocks around it. Is the advantage disease carryover, extra residue or something else?

@DirectSeeding You could turn that straw into hay for drought feed

@DirectSeeding Could be good roughage. Haven’t heard of anyone baling straw up here. I’d have to factor in cost of potassium loss too.
