Hmmm, what a Dad , so spot on in your bold discussion with your daughter. That girl will be embolded, and i hope not to be shy when I have been confronted next. I think when parents instil knowledge and confidence in their children irrespective of where they come from and how they look, they become internally validated and stable persons wherever they find themselves. So when the world throws lemon at them, they make lemonade out of it. Teachers do have a big role here to dissuade other kids from addressing other kids based on appearance.. as an armchair observer. What a wonderful father. As a teacher I saw first hand how cruel children can be. What is important is that children should always tell their parents what is happening at school because if bullying is allowed to continue, the only recourse is to find another school before the child is psychologically damaged.

I used to have conversations like this all the time with my son who has dark skin. He would cry that is wasn't white like his cousins and the other kids would tease him. Kids can be so cruel.

My parents always taught me to stand up for myself and others. At school, kids also try to test you. It's up to you how you react to it. Be kind but take nobody's shit either.
