The complete CCTV footage released by the family, a copy of the police complaint, photos and other relevant documents are attached. I contacted a few journalists in Patiala and many told me they were threatened by the police. They feared being falsely implicated in fabricated cases, which is why only 1-2 journalists reported on the issue, despite the victim being the wife of a colonel. As European Democrats, we are appalled by the images coming from Novi Sad, Serbia: a woman violently beaten by a police officer in broad daylight. This is not law enforcement — it’s state brutality. This is the climate Aleksandar Vučić has created: fear, impunity, authoritarianism. A regime that crushes dissent and targets women, minorities, journalists. We stand in full solidarity with Serbian democrats and civil society. Europe must not turn a blind eye. There is no European future for Serbia under Vučić’s rule.

In line with the Freedom of Assembly Act, police designated Boduthakurufaanu Magu as the protest route after discussions with the MDP. However, demonstrators defied the agreement, forcing their way into Majeedhee Magu, breaking barricades and seizing police shields. In doing so, they obstructed officers from carrying out their lawful duties. Despite the provocation, police acted within the law and with restraint to maintain order.
