When it is the right thing to do, I will say so. On this occasion, I agree with the Home Secretary. The Chief Constable of West Midlands Police should resign and if he does not, the Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands should now dismiss him. The decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters was politically motivated. It was not about public safety. It was about appeasement, and that is unacceptable.

I’ve just been on LBC with Nick Ferrari to explain how West Midlands Police Chief Constable Craig Guildford repeatedly misled Parliament last week, why the Home Affairs Committee should call him back to explain himself and why his position is untenable. The police’s job is to ensure people can go about their lawful business freely and safely. They refused to do that in Birmingham and made up “intelligence” to ban Israelis. Instead, they capitulated to extremists, racists, trouble makers, hate preachers and sectarian politicians. Completely unacceptable.
