Omg this movie freaked me out when I was young 😱

This is one of those films you can shut off after the first act. After an outstanding opening 25 minutes, the film has no idea what to do with itself the rest of the way.

The trope of a babysitter being terrorized by a maniac originated from the true story of Janett Christman in 1950. Still unsolved! We covered her case in Episode 48:

I love this film!

They definitely set the bar high with this incredible opening sequence, but it follows on perfectly. Durning and Dewhurst do great work, and Rachel Roberts (briefly) is always worth a look.

I've said this before, but yes, that sounds almost exactly like Deep Note, the name of the iconic audio logo used by THX Ltd. before movies, trailers, and other presentations in THX-certified theaters. It was created by James A. Moorer in 1983. Maybe a subconscious thing on his part? I don't know.

This woman can act. I was so surprised how brilliant she is as a serious actress.
