AFP, U.S., Partner Nations Conduct Counter-Landing Live Fire Exercise in Palawan The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), together with the United States Armed Forces, Australian Defence Force, and New Zealand Defence Force, conducted a Counter-Landing Live Fire Exercise (CLLFX-West) on April 27, 2026 at the Apurawan Beach Landing Site in Aborlan, Palawan, as part of Exercise Balikatan 41–2026. Led by the Philippine Marine Corps’ 3rd Marine Brigade, the exercise simulated a maritime threat involving an enemy amphibious landing along the coastline, showcasing combined forces’ capability to detect, disrupt, and deny hostile elements from establishing a beachhead. The activity demonstrated strong coordination and interoperability among participating forces in a complex littoral environment. The exercise highlighted a layered, multi-domain defense employing synchronized air, land, and indirect fire assets. The Philippine Air Force deployed FA-50 fighter jets for air interdiction, while U.S. forces provided High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) capabilities. Ground forces executed mid- to close-range engagements using artillery, mortars, light armored vehicles, anti-armor systems, heavy machine guns, and infantry weapons, supported by precision strikes and reconnaissance. In addition, a simulated Non-Combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) was conducted in Sitio Bubusawin and Sitio Long Point, alongside a community outreach activity in coordination with the local government of Aborlan and Barangay Apurawan, underscoring the AFP’s role in both defense and humanitarian operations. General Romeo S. Brawner Jr, AFP Chief of Staff witnessed the live fire exercise as one of the distinguished visitors together with Vice Admiral Alan M Javier, Commander of Western Command. While at West Point, Perez held the position of Brigade Command Sergeant Major, making her the first African American woman to serve in that role. She was commissioned into the Army Medical Service Corps and deployed to Iraq in December 2005 with the 204th Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, where she performed convoy and leadership duties. On September 12, 2006, Perez succumbed in action near Al Kifl, Iraq, when her vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. She was 23 years old. She is recognized as the first African American female officer and the first female West Point graduate to die in the Iraq War. Perez was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Her service is commemorated through official memorials, scholarships, and educational exhibits documented by military and historical institutions.

Kendall was conducting combat operations with the 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Carson, Colorado. The streets were tense. Every patrol carried risk. Every doorway could hide danger. That day, the danger found him. Dustin was k*lled in action. In a single violent moment, a son from Conway, Arkansas, became a folded flag. Behind every rank is a story. Dustin was not just a Corporal. He was someone's child. Someone's friend. Someone who once laughed without the weight of body armor on his shoulders. He chose to serve when others stayed home. He accepted responsibility when others hesitated. They carry the lives of those beside them. They move first. They set the tone. the most beautiful DIY robot build i've ever seen: this guy turned a robot dog into an off-road wheelchair so his dad could go hiking again his dad used to run marathons, but 20 years ago multiple sclerosis put him in a wheelchair. so his son Jake took a Unitree B2-W (an industrial robot with 4 legs and a wheel on each foot) and built a custom seat on top. on flat ground it rolls just like a normal wheelchair. but when it reaches rocks, water, or stairs, each leg can lift and adjust on its own, allowing it to step right over them. getting this to work safely took a while. > the robot was never designed to carry a person (it tipped over many times during testing) > so Jake spent 3 years recalibrating it. he tested it on his friends first, then once it was stable enough his dad finally got to try it. > and after 20 years in a wheelchair, he climbed a hiking trail again. a chair like this could eventually give wheelchair users access to trails, beaches, broken sidewalks, all the places that are still out of reach today. and one dude built it in his garage lol we truly live in a golden age where a single person can create world-changing tech

🙏🇺🇸🙏 In 1942, an 18-year-old rebel with a history of getting expelled from schools walked into a recruitment office and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His name was Lamont Waltman Marvin Jr. You know him as Lee Marvin. He hadn't been easy to raise. Restless, undisciplined, bounced between schools his whole childhood. But when America went to war, something clicked into place. He knew exactly where he needed to be. He trained at Parris Island, South Carolina, completed Quartermaster School, and was promoted to Corporal — then demoted back to Private First Class for disciplinary infractions. Some things never changed. What did change him was the Pacific. Assigned to I Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division, Marvin participated in 21 amphibious assaults on Japanese-held islands. He served as a scout sniper — the men sent ashore in rubber boats in the dead of night, before anyone else, to clear the way. Then came Saipan. On June 18, 1944, during the assault on Mount Tapochau, machine gun fire tore through him and severed his sciatic nerve. Moments later, a sniper's bullet hit him in the foot. In fifteen minutes, his company of 247 men was reduced to six survivors. Lee Marvin was one of them. He spent the next 13 months in naval hospitals, undergoing treatment that would have broken most men. He was medically discharged as a Private First Class — the rank still showing the demotion from years before. The Marine Corps was done with him, even if he wasn't done with them. Back in upstate New York, he took work as a plumber's assistant at a local community theater. One day, filling in for an ailing actor at a rehearsal, he discovered something unexpected: he loved the stage. What followed was one of Hollywood's most unlikely careers. The lean, scarred veteran with the gravelly voice and thousand-yard stare became one of the most compelling actors of his generation. The Big Heat. The Wild One. M Squad. The Dirty Dozen. And in 1966, the Academy Award for Best Actor - for Cat Ballou, of all things, a comedy Western. The toughest man in Hollywood won his Oscar playing both a drunken gunfighter and his villainous twin. But Lee Marvin never forgot what he considered his real role. He said he learned to act in the Marines — trying to look unafraid during combat when terror was all around him. When directors needed someone to show actors how infantry moved, how a rifle was held, how a man looked who had actually been shot at — they called Lee Marvin. He died on August 29, 1987, at the age of 63 - of a heart attack in Tucson, Arizona. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. His headstone doesn't say "Academy Award Winner." It reads: PFC — US Marine Corps — World War II. That was the title he chose. That was the one that mattered. Decorated with the Purple Heart, the Presidential Unit Citation, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War I| Victory Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. But when America went to war, something clicked into place. He knew exactly where he needed to be. He trained at Parris Island, South Carolina, completed Quartermaster School, and was promoted to Corporal — then demoted back to Private First Class for disciplinary infractions. Some things never changed. What did change him was the Pacific. Assigned to I Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division, Marvin participated in 21 amphibious assaults on Japanese-held islands. He served as a scout sniper — the men sent ashore in rubber boats in the dead of night, before anyone else, to clear the way. Then came Saipan. On June 18, 1944, during the assault on Mount Tapochau, machine gun fire tore through him and severed his sciatic nerve. Moments later, a sniper's bullet hit him in the foot. In fifteen minutes, his company of 247 men was reduced to six survivors. Lee Marvin was one of them. He spent the next 13 months in naval hospitals, undergoing treatment that would have broken most men. He was medically discharged as a Private First Class — the rank still showing the demotion from years before. The Marine Corps was done with him, even if he wasn't done with them. Back in upstate New York, he took work as a plumber's assistant at a local community theater. One day, filling in for an ailing actor at a rehearsal, he discovered something unexpected: he loved the stage. What followed was one of Hollywood's most unlikely careers. The lean, scarred veteran with the gravelly voice and thousand-yard stare became one of the most compelling actors of his generation. The Big Heat. The Wild One. M Squad. The Dirty Dozen. And in 1966, the Academy Award for Best Actor - for Cat Ballou, of all things, a comedy Western. The toughest man in Hollywood won his Oscar playing both a drunken gunfighter and his villainous twin. But Lee Marvin never forgot what he considered his real role. He said he learned to act in the Marines — trying to look unafraid during combat when terror was all around him. When directors needed someone to show actors how infantry moved, how a rifle was held, how a man looked who had actually been shot at — they called Lee Marvin. He died on August 29, 1987, at the age of 63 - of a heart attack in Tucson, Arizona. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. His headstone doesn't say "Academy Award Winner." It reads: PFC — US Marine Corps — World War II. That was the title he chose. That was the one that mattered. This didn’t age well. Remember when Governor Mikie Sherrill scoffed at the idea of NJ schools looking like Louisiana or Mississippi? Fast forward. New Jersey is now #30 in student growth, FAR BEHIND Louisiana, Mississippi, and 27 other states. According to Laura Waters in NJ Ed Report : She writes: “According to the rankings, New Jersey is ranked #30 in student growth, despite massive spending from the state (projected to be $12.4 billion next year, a 3.1% increase from last year, plus a big chunk of your property taxes).” “The drop for NJ eighth graders in reading was especially precipitous, 3.8 points, one of the worst performances among all states, and proficiency scores in the other subjects — fourth grade reading and math and eighth grade math — dropped about one point.” “In contrast, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee saw increases in proficiency in every subject. In Louisiana, fourth graders increased scores in math by almost six points and 3.7 points in reading.” She also points to a mix of causes (might I add spearheaded by the Democrat Majority and supported by the NJEA) for NJ's massive decline: lowered standards that mask reality, long school closures, lack of accountability, grade inflation, and a system focused on inputs instead of results.
