In light of the Supreme Court ruling that states can prohibit transgender athletes from competing on girls' and women's sports teams, NCAA President Charlie Baker says “the most important thing about it is to have a clear policy and to have one that is consistent with federal policy.” “Because that eliminates sort of all the gray with respect to how this should be dealt with or how it should be treated,” he explains. When asked if the policy "makes the NCAA inclusive enough," Baker says, “Yeah, I do...there's plenty of science and plenty of debate and discussion about this, and reasonable people can disagree. Enough is enough, and he wrestled with these circumstances — uh — these change in circumstances ultimately — uh — and the combination of that — uh — the present changing his mind and issuing certainly led to the present changing his mind and issuing this pardon, and one thing that I do want to point to, which I think is important, is what Congressman James Clyburn said — uh — when he was interviewed. He said, I am absolutely okay with it. Uh — I don't know how many people urge him to do so, but I did. Uh — he seemed to be reticent about it. This is what Clyburn said — uh — when he spoke to the President two weeks ago — uh — but I emphasize continuing his — his quote — uh — emphasized the fact that we as fathers have obligations to our children, so that was a conversation that the congressman himself had with the President two — two weeks ago, said that the President was reticent when he encouraged the President to do so, and this weekend — uh — he thought about it — uh — and he weighed, he — it was not an easy decision to — to come to — and he put out a comprehensive — uh — comprehensive statement, and I would certainly — um — you know, offer that up to folks out there who are wondering, I would say, please read the president's, uh, President's response to this in full.”

We begin with the tough message—one might even say a rebuke—that is coming today from the White House to Israel, over the fact that Trump views the killing of Ra’ad Sa’ad on Saturday in Gaza as a violation of the agreement, Amit. Well, first of all, this reminds me a bit of the Rabin era, when journalists who wanted a hawkish message against Arafat would latch onto Eitan Haber, and when they wanted a dovish message, they would latch onto Shimon Peres. There are all kinds of actors in the White House. Some of them are telling us tonight: there are disagreements among us. There were those who really liked it, and those who really didn’t like it. Not because they wanted Ra’ad Sa’ad to go on living happily ever after, but simply because of the sensitive timing and what some of the mediators might say. Now, one needs to pay attention to what Barak was talking about—namely, what people in the White House are thinking. What was said in the actual conversation? Well, in that conversation, as I understand it—again, I wasn’t a fly on the wall, so I’m saying what I’ve heard—what was said… Right, Barak published that they basically said this harms the ceasefire. But as I understand it, in the conversation itself, not what people in the White House think, but what was actually said—what they said was: please coordinate with us when you carry out military operations. That’s what I understand happened in the conversation. Not a call from Donald Trump himself, but a call from senior officials. Israel, in terms of results—and here I have to say something encouraging—did not update the White House beforehand that it was going to assassinate Ra’ad Sa’ad, and that is very important in light of all the talk claiming that Israel is a client state, a vassal, and all this sudden concern that we’re going to become the 51st state under the U.S. flag. As long as the message is conveyed that Israel does not compromise on its security and eliminates these agents of death when necessary, then, you know what—if there are already disagreements with the friendliest administration in history, let them be about that. If it has to be said in Vegas, as they supposedly say in the White House: whether there is a Plan B, and whether Hamas will really be dismantled and disarmed voluntarily by the mediators say whatever you want against us, they say. But on the other hand, a reminder: everyone who spoke against us and said we would not get twenty hostages back eventually fell, because in the end the house always wins and in this case, the White House. The entire gap between Israel and the U.S. regarding Gaza is that in Israel they believe it will simply take Trump a few more weeks to understand that his vision—that Hamas will disarm—will not happen, and then he will allow Israel to act militarily on its own against Hamas, because no one else will do it in its place. And this, among other things, is what Netanyahu’s meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago at the end of the month is about.
