When asked why Trump would impose additional tariffs on Canada in the middle of trade negotiations, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said because Canada retaliated in response to President Trump’s initial tariffs. “The only other country in the world who retaliated on tariffs was the Chinese. And so, if the president is going to take an action and the Canadians retaliate, the United States needs to maintain the integrity of our action, the effectiveness,” Greer told Margaret Brennan in an interview on Friday.

In case you don’t, here is Trump telling everybody how great that trade deal was. Trump’s new tariffs on Canada and Mexico strictly go against the tariff-free principles enshrined in the USMCA. But again, Republicans will celebrate like it’s some great move. They will celebrate anything and everything that Trump does no matter what, even if it hurts them and their families.
