The 29-year-old shooter known as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was an Afghan national who reportedly entered the United States with a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) under the Operation Allies Welcome program which was created to resettle Afghans after the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. ALERT: Taliban Confirm Detention of Two Americans For First Time, Most Likely Including Afghan-American Mahmood Shah Habibi The Taliban have, for the first time, officially confirmed that two American citizens are being held in Afghanistan, most likely including Afghan-American businessman Mahmood Shah Habibi. Speaking to TOLOnews, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said: “Two Americans are still in detention in Afghanistan. They were arrested for violating Afghan law. Elon Musk is absolutely correct on this. Vote them out. And in my opinion, the entirety of Congress had MONTHS under the direction of the President to get the SAVE America Act passed. All 535 members of Congress are responsible for this. This is the time when all members of Congress should have come together to protect American citizens and our sacred right of voting. They miserably failed the American people.

There’s a serious problem of misogyny among parts of the Afghan diaspora—both inside #Afghanistan and abroad. In one recent case, an Afghan-Pashtun restaurant owner in the U.S. verbally abused a Pakistani-American woman and her mother. Sadly, I’ve also been targeted by Afghan/Pashtun individuals who insult the women in my family—my wife, sister, and mother. This shows a deep-rooted culture of disrespect toward women. This isn’t just one case. The #Pashtunwali code, often praised, includes ideas that promote male dominance and misogyny. We need to stop ignoring that. Nearly 90% of Afghan immigrants in the West are Pashtun. Instead of adapting, some bring harmful attitudes and violent behavior—from shootings in Washington to rape cases in the UK. These actions reflect a mindset stuck in a broken, patriarchal past and a specific culture. Reports show that most crimes linked to Afghan nationals in the U.S. are committed by Afghan/Pashtuns—not by Tajiks, Hazaras, or others. That difference matters when we talk about patterns of violence and cultural roots of misogyny.

The horrific scenes that followed still, to this day, shock the conscience. The crowds of desperate Afghans on the tarmac or packed into planes trying desperately to escape, or the 13 American service members killed in the Abbey Gate bombing along with countless Afghan civilians. Five years later, more than 2 million Afghan girls are currently blocked from attending school by the Taliban, according to UNESCO. It's now legal in Afghanistan for men to beat their wives, as long as they don't break any bones or leave any lasting injuries. Meanwhile, many Afghans who fought with the U.S., risked their lives for the U.S., remain stranded abroad after the Trump administration halted the Special Immigrant Visa program. And many of those who did make it to the United States, to this day, live in fear that their green cards will be revoked. With that legacy from the war in Afghanistan, you can forgive the American people for wondering why they should trust our leaders when they tell us that our brave service members are engaged in a vital mission. And when today's leaders glibly dismiss questions about their current mission in Iran, what the end game is? What's the plan? Whether there are adequate protections for our service members in Jordan or Kuwait, whether President Trump and Secretary Hegseth are covering up the deaths of Iranian civilians from U.S. strikes or hiding poor conditions for sailors and Marines aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. They operate on a completely different belief system. Pretending otherwise is suicidal. Pretending otherwise got two National Guard members murdered in the name of “Allahu Akbar,” the liberals’ favorite God, the one who kills and oppresses. Don't like Trump's delivery? He should be pissed. Get over it and maybe get angry that we have a political party working against our citizens and prioritizing Afghan migrants.

In July, there was a Texas Tribune story claiming that some Texas Republicans were reluctant to redraw Texas’ congressional maps. Let me be clear: I was never one of the reluctant! I passed new congressional maps in the Texas Senate so Texans could elect more Republicans to Congress. Accusations of racial discrimination were ridiculous then and ridiculous now. Judge Jerry Smith gets it. In his opinion issued yesterday, Judge Smith wrote, “the obvious reason for the 2025 redistricting of course is partisan gain[.]” I urge the U.S. Supreme Court to take quick action to allow all our conservative Texans to have conservative Republican representation in Congress! As I said, I was in support of electing more Republicans to Congress from Texas from the beginning. Here is a short clip of what I said in June before Gov. Abbott added redistricting to the special session call.

There are dozens of members of Congress who hold dual citizenship. That is completely unacceptable. The only oath of allegiance a member of Congress should swear is to the United States of America.
