As Nietzsche said: people think that conscious thought is the only kind of thought. Wait till you see what’s underneath.

They are actually called modules now. The "self" is made up of many modules and it works sort of like a committee. Each module is influenced by evolution.

“Language is 70-80,000 years old compared to the 3-4 million years we’ve been here.” Cool to imagine the subconscious has been communicating to us w/out language many times longer than language has existed.

I enjoy listening to Cormac he is encapsulating. I think our subconscious speaks to us in allegories, which the ancients scribed in myths. It's a skill to interpret the messages given to us in allegories that humans have lost over time.

Wow. I’m going to need to read some Cormac McCarthy. I keep seeing videos that land. Where should I start?

He's basically summarizing my personal practice with dream interpretation: most dreams are a debate in visual metaphor, a trial of differing perspectives.

@m_millsey The “older than language” articulation is BRILLIANT for a non cognitive neuroscientist. Music is have spoken with friend about in the same context. (“Take to sticks to make it in the nature”)
