#SundayMusing - THE POLITICAL STRATEGY OF DEMONISING NASIR EL-RUFAI - by: Dr Uche Diala - Part 1 Many people are sitting down and allowing some vested interests to be gaslighting them against a man, Nasir El-Rufai, whose only sin is to be intelligently and intellectually gifted by God, to be conscious of it and using it without fear, favor or pandering to advance the cause of society including theirs. Some of my brethren from Southern Kaduna, with all due respect and appreciation of their documented long standing issues and dynamics, are buying and swallowing, hook, line and sinker, the narratives from their new found lovers that El-Rufai is demonic and evil, without pondering over their fate over history and time, even long before Nasir El-Rufai appeared on the scene, and placing them side by side to determine factually and objectively, how truly worse or better El-Rufai was for their cause and fate. I do not want to mention some of my APC brethren to whom El-Rufai has suddenly transformed from hero to villain, simply because he told us some hard truths about our party; truths which most of us know and some have equally voiced out. Tragically, some say, not unexpectedly, some of my brethren from the South East, many of whom have never crossed River Niger to the North, have already jumped in the fray and joined in the bandwagon of 'he hates Igbos and Christians' 'El-Rufai is evil', etc., much the same way they did to Buhari, without any sensible proof and without pondering over the motive of those orchestrating and feeding them such narrative. No lesson having been learnt. For a man whose watch word as Minister for FCT was excellence. Or did anyone hear that he favored any particular tribe or religion while he went about restoring the Abuja masterplan as its Minister? I have been in the FCT and I know firsthand. Put your ears to the ground, beyond the hype and the noise and hear stories about today. A man who as Governor of the cosmopolitan Kaduna state engaged Nigerians - Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa, Christian and Muslim and men and women alike, so long as they could add value to his governance of the state. Including many of those joining betrayers and ungrateful elements to castigate him today. I was not one of them, but I can't in good conscience pretend that I did not know. A man who inspite of his limitations as chief security officer of the state on paper, understood that security was paramount to delivering his mandate for the people who elected him and who God temporarily placed him in authority over. He was tough on every part, North and South alike, when need was. For him, criminality was criminality, no matter who orchestrated it. That is not to say that he was a saint or made no mistakes, but he who is a saint among us and of no sin, should cast the first stone. Compare and contrast your own state and state Governor with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s Kaduna state and El-Rufai as a Governor. Unfortunately, the increasing tragedy of our politics today, is that it blurs the lines between common sense and nonsense, truth and lies, friends and frenemies and reality and illusions; making heroes out of villains and vice versa, making many to defend who and what they like and not what is right, and making people to embrace those they should sensibly avoid like a plague and to hate those they should ordinarily love and vice versa.

On May 3rd, 2024, Rt. Hon. Ben Kalu visited Governor Alex Otti, OFR, to commend him for his outstanding performance and for restoring the dignity of Abia State. According to him, he had come to “tell the world that Governor Alex Otti is doing well,” emphasizing that his commendation had nothing to do with political party affiliations. He said he believed the Governor was genuinely passionate about making Abia proud again. At that time, Ben Kalu did not realize, or perhaps did not care, that it was the President providing the federal funds for the projects. He didn’t rush to divert the credit to the President, neither did he remember that he was the opposition leader in the state. In fact, he openly admitted that the works of Governor Otti were so many and so visible that Abians could once again feel proud of their state. He further affirmed that the Governor’s bold steps in governance would surely lead Abia to the promised land. Interestingly, that was a period when Ben Kalu still had a human face. Back then, power had not yet intoxicated him. His arrogance had not yet taken full form. Fast forward to October 5th, 2025, watch the video and judge for yourself. It’s the same Ben Kalu, but a different location and a different date. He has now remembered that he is the opposition leader. He now claims that credit should not go to the Governor, and suddenly, the President must be acknowledged. People like Ben Kalu should be approached with caution. These are the kind of leaders who claim to be guiding you toward a destination but will abandon you midway. This is a wake up call to everyone Ben has managed to hoodwink into believing they are on some political mission or battle. First of all, Governor Alex Otti has no battle ahead. There is no war to fight. The battle Ben is drawing exists only between him and Abians. To Ben’s followers, have you now seen that your principal, the man you so highly adore is inconsistent? Be careful not to make enemies for yourself and your generation in the name of defending a man who cannot stand by his own words. Any man who does not stay true to his words does not deserve to be trusted. Ben Kalu is a perfect example. Miracle Chukwunenye October 7, 2025.

Abati is trending because Arise TV’s Reuben Abati has dared Akpabio to impeach Tinubu for disrespecting the constitution. Abati stated that, Tinubu solely decided to make himself the Dictator of Rivers State, suspending the governor, the deputy and the legislative. Which is totally illegal in the 99 constitution. By which, Tinubu commited an impeachable offense, removing Sim Fubara and installing a military administrator in charge of Rivers State without NASS approval. He argued that, Tinubu cited Section 305. But failed to recognize Section 188 which stated that, only the NASS and AGF can remove an elected official. — Not the President. That’s why when Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency over insecurity in three northern states, including Borno, Adamawa and Yobe., he didn’t suspend the government. Unlike Obasanjo who did it in Ekiti and Plateau, although illegally, which doesn’t make right. Obj legal adviser then, argued that they acted based on the 1961 constitution, not 1999. Abati insisted, Tinubu commited an impeachable offense by acting against the Nigerian constitution. But APC folks, believe Abati is misinterpreting the laws because he worked under Goodluck Jonathan as his Senior Adviser on Media. Actually, for short.. According to the constitution, Abati is right. The president cannot remove an elected official, Obasanjo doing it was illegal. Also, the conditions for a State of emergency to be declared, were not fully met. Since it was an “emergency”, when the President declared SOE, to suspend the officials, he should have recommended it to the Senate who should have approved it almost instantly, since it was an “Emergency”. But, the Senate did not approve the SOE. Which they have two days, and 10 days to do. Essentially invalidating every sense of “Emergency” in the State. Again, validating that there was no cause to suspend the Governor, Deputy or Legislative. If the senate doesn’t approve the SOE in 9 days, the SOE won’t stand. Today, NASS didn’t talk about the SOE, they moved it to tomorrow, Thursday. Albeit, President Tinubu has sworn in Navy Chief, Admiral Ibokette Ibas, as the administrator for Rivers State. And according to reports, Rivers FAAC allocations will be released to him. This was blocked by Supreme Court, pending Fubara’s re-presentation of the budget. Pres. Tinubu will make laws for Rivers, through the FEC. — Illegal. Follow Trending Explained for daily explanations!

#WATCH | Chandigarh | Jaswinder Kaur Bath, wife of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath, who was allegedly assaulted by Punjab Police personnel in Patiala, says, "We went to meet DGP Gaurav Yadav, but he was busy. We waited for one and a half hours, but then he left without meeting us. He is an army officer's son, but he still did so... I am raising my voice just because my son said that he would not stay in this country as it is not worth staying. I had to prove to him that justice would be given... Then, we went to meet the governor, and he had tears in his eyes when I spoke to him and when I showed him the pictures and the brutality. He called the DGP and told him that FIR is my right with all the names and to please do what is needed. The governor then told us that if the FIR is not registered, we should get back to him. I want to thank the governor for standing up with us. I came to know through the media that SSP Nanak Singh had said that a magisterial inquiry had been set up, but the FIR could not be changed... Today, when everyone was standing up with me, all the politicians started calling me, but I didn't pick up a single call as this was not a political fight. They cannot say that we were under the influence of alcohol as it is there in the (medical) report of a government hospital... A police inspector told me that we cannot add the names of some police personnel in the FIR as they have been awarded as encounter specialists by the DIG and are about to be promoted. They said that police will do the needful but cannot name them in FIR ..." (21/03)

I remember when I was young, around 10-11 years old. My parents were both asleep as was my brother. I heard a knock on the back door which was weird because who uses the back door at a stranger’s house? The kitchen window was close by so I take a look. It looked like a teenager but hard to tell because they had a hoodie with the hood up. I didn’t open the door but I did crack the window and asked them what they wanted. They replied they were lost and wanted to come in to warm up and use the phone. Even when it’s daylight I know never to let anybody in period that I didn’t know, but a stranger after midnight was weird enough. I said no because I didn’t know them. Then they said that hey knew my dad and that’s why he came by. I said that’s fine and all but I’m not letting you use our phone. This was before cellphones were widely used, we had a landline like most people. The person wouldn’t take no for an answer and I could sense he was getting angry. I went and woke up my dad, I told him there was somebody at the back door and that he said they knew him. He walked to the door and looked out and said he didn’t know him. But he did talk through the door and told him that he was calling the police and that he should just leave. The person just stood there until the police finally came and even they asked him what he was doing knocking on the door at that hour. He told them he was lost and thought this was a house of a family friend. The police told him my dad didn’t know him and made him leave. So was this a case of wrong house or was he up to something. It makes me still wonder to this day but I’m still glad I never opened the door.

VIDEO: How we used religion to give Tinubu victory – El-Rufai The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that he and some northern governors used religion as a political tool to give victory to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election. According to the former governor, the decision to use religion as a political strategy was to help tackle the issue of tribalism and religion in politics in the country. The former governor stated this in a viral video. He was speaking to an audience in the Hausa language in Kaduna at an event before handing over to his successor. He said, “Allah sees our heart, me and Zamfara State Governor, Mutawalle did it because of God and we didn’t do it because of anything. We only do it in order to have solutions to the current religious problem we are having in Nigeria and for us to give South West Muslims a sense of belonging to rule. And it is because of religion that we used that gave Asiwaju victory.” He also noted that the Muslim/Muslim ticket that he used to achieve political success in Kaduna has now been replicated in Nigeria with the emergence of Bola Tinubu as president and Kashim Shetima as vice president. He said, “What we are able to achieve in Kaduna state now has been achieved in Nigeria as a whole. There is no liar that will come and say he will do politics as a Christian and win an election. Even Peter Obi didn’t win.” He stated that he alongside other northern governors successfully pushed for the emergence of a Yoruba Muslim from the South West as president despite opposition from some quarters El Rufai speaking in Hausa said in part, “Concerning the Presidential government, what Professor Akintola said is true. We the Northern governors agreed that the presidential position should go back to the West. It was a verbal promise but a promise whether written or spoken, God knows. “When we saw some people plotting for presidential position to remain in the North, we disagreed, we are not like that. We said we are Muslims and we have our traditions and we cannot go back on our words. That was the first step. The second step is after we all agreed or they realised that they cannot do anything, we will tackle the issue of tribalism and religion in politics in this country. We agreed that we will support BAT. “When we had that agreement I was not on good terms with him, (Tinubu), we were fighting. But Professor Akintola and their leaders came from Lagos and said this is their thought If power is given to the West since we all agreed that it should be given to them the Yoruba people from the South-West have a problem, their Muslims cannot contest, and win an election. A Christian will have to contest and have a Muslim from the North as a vice. They said since from Abiola it had never happened. They said they wanted that and I asked them to bring the person we will support and BAT got the ticket. We knew he will have to take a Muslim as his vice.” He added, “What we are able to achieve in Kaduna state now has been achieved in Nigeria as a whole. There's no liar that will come and say he will do politics as a Christian and win the election. Even Peter Obi didn't win.” Credit: Tafarkin Magabata TV --- Follow us for more breaking news and videos

[WATCH] THE PRESIDENT WILL NOT RESIGN. When it comes to the President, there is always a distinctive role between him being the President of the party and the state. There are many factors that influence the state in terms of governance and stability. If the President is called upon by some to resign and he keeps quiet it can throw the state into a state of turmoil. I want to make it clear that the officials agreed with the President on his approach, he took us into confidence and explained the factors that led him to make that particular pronouncement. We believe that the President did the right thing in pronouncing in the best interest of South Africa that he will not be resigning. There was nothing in terms of the judgment that warranted the President to resign it was just mere calls made by individuals and political parties that wanted to throw our country into a state of turmoil, uncertainty and anxiety. So it was imperative that he focus on that. It was correct for him to tell the country that from where he is standing there is nothing in the judgement that states he has done any wrongdoing and what he is going to do with the options in front of him and he has made this public. The President will take the Section 89 Report on review based on the outcome of the judgment and the legal advice he has received. There are no daggers out for the President to resign just opportunistic elements. These elements do not know what they want, they want to impeach and want him to resign, they do know what they actually want. The veracity of the report has not been tested in any committee so they don’t have a basis for the President to resign.
