Straight out of the Navy as a civvy in CA, I signed with a Safety Dept @ a Naval base newly moved to a used 2-story Quonset hut w/ a lot of electrical problems. We had a sharp Navy Senior Chief Electrician's Mate w/ us on temp duty assigned. He found a box that looked like the one posted @ the beginning of this thread. Flip a switch on the top floor and something on the ground floor would turn on or off, etc. The whole building had to be rewired.

Cut the main and run. 🤣
