I would rather have champions be the only ones guaranteed anything, thus the 5+11 works. That said, I loathe the idea of a committee selecting anything, so I don't hate your idea out of hand. I do hate that a sixth place team would have a chance to get in when it has not proven itself worthy during the season. It SHOULD be about excellence (which it was with BCS/4 team CFP) but unfortunately is not.

5+11 doesn’t work at all - it sucks

Josh, honest questions for you. 1. Don’t we want the model that gets us as close as possible to just having the 16 best teams make the Playoff? (acknowledging that it will never 100% be that because of the 5 conference champs making it) But, 5+11 gets you closer to that than the AQ’s, I don’t think you would argue that. 2. Semi-related to Question 1. In years when it’s blatantly obvious and widely agreed upon that the Big Ten or SEC only have 3 teams that are Playoff worthy, they get a 4th, just because…? Same deal, with years when it’s obvious that Big 12/ACC only have 1 team Playoff worthy, they get a 2nd, just because…? Yeah, no thanks, I’ll take the 5+11 model. 5 conference champs and the 11 other best teams. At minimum that will give us 13 of the best 16 teams (11 plus SEC and Big Ten champs) in the country each year. AQ model could leave you with up to 5 teams that aren’t actually in the 16 best. (2 ACC, 2 Big 12, G5)

You’re starting on chapter 2 of the book while ignoring chapter 1 (the regular season) becoming so watered down the pages won’t even flip

Disagree. The 14-team AQ model just locks in SEC/B1G control. Most fans want balance—not ESPN-driven consolidation. A 4x4 or 3x4+1G5 model is way more fair. Give every P4 a real shot. Let Cody Campbell explain it—then you’ll get a true super-majority.

There is zero chance any format locks in balance because balance doesn’t exist in this sport
