This clip I’ve given you was personal to him. The Eroica tells a story of a hero and his struggle - originally dedicated to Napoleon, but probably more about B himself. This music comes from the development section of the first movement, has a hint of a fugue which explodes into a crisis, and then a new subdued theme emerges. Probably it tracks B’s own feeling that he needed to renew himself after the realization he was losing his hearing. I think this is very relatable. You go through life, things don’t go how you want - and you have to pivot, recreate yourself from time to time. I think this is what this music is about.
