I pushed for stronger oversight because the governance problems were becoming impossible to ignore. Nothing changed. It's incumbent upon the government to ensure transparency. Even though the government sometimes distances itself from the trust, everybody knows that this trust was formed by the government specifically to build the temple. I asked straightforward questions about government decision-making, lobbying, and conflicts of interest involving the Premier. Instead of answers, I was met with interruptions, insults, and repeated attempts to shut down the discussion. Watch closely. Ask yourself: Why was this question so difficult to answer? And why were they so determined to prevent it from being asked? Since this exchange, Albertans have witnessed controversy after controversy involving sole-source contracts, procurement practices, government appointments, and questions of transparency and accountability. And now, AHS has been ordered by the courts to turn over documents to law enforcement. That development makes this exchange even more relevant. The details may change, but the pattern remains the same. When legitimate questions are raised, this government dodges responsibility. Too often we see deflection, obstruction, and theatrics. Who's Really Profiting from Alberta's Data Centers? The Alberta government calls data centers a multi-billion-dollar opportunity. But what's the return for Albertans? These projects demand enormous amounts of electricity, natural gas, water and public infrastructure. They place new pressures on municipalities and local communities, yet the government has provided very little information about the long-term economic benefits to Albertans. How much provincial tax revenue will they generate? What will they cost taxpayers and how will they affect affordability and inflation? Why are municipalities and local residents being sidelined in the process? I'm not opposed to data centers. Alberta should absolutely compete for investment. But attracting investment at any cost isn't good government. If Albertans are expected to provide the land, infrastructure, energy and public services that make these projects possible, then Albertans should be the first to benefit - not the last. We need transparency, accountability and a framework that protects the public interest before we commit billions of dollars' worth of Alberta's resources. The NDP just shut down the B.C. Government Directory, a basic public resource that has existed since the 1930s. For decades, British Columbians could see the size of the bureaucracy and how their government was structured. That transparency is now gone. At the exact moment the NDP is running record deficits and ballooning the public payroll, they have decided to hide the details from the people who pay the bills. Their cybersecurity and privacy excuse is weak. Other governments protect personal information without blacking out the entire structure of the public service. This is not about security. It is about reducing scrutiny. A government that spends this recklessly and piles on debt this quickly has no right to operate in greater secrecy. The NDP is deliberately closing the public’s window into government when accountability is needed most. This is an attack on basic transparency, and it is unacceptable.
