When "Hamilton" lost its snob appeal. Upper-middle-class people loved “Hamilton” when tickets were prohibitively expensive, but then disparaged it when it became affordable to view on Disney Plus. Once something becomes available to the masses, elites revise their tastes:

The politics flipped on “Hamilton” after the George Floyd stuff. Its early 2010s liberalism was out of step with wokeness. Its message that everyone should be proud of American history clashed with the new idea that nobody should be proud of American history.

Remember when Mike Pence went to Hamilton shortly after Trump won the 2016 election and the degenerate cast of the show tried to shame him before the show began? It was a big scandal. I though the real scandal was that Mike Pence went to Hamilton.

And here's me with no intention of ever watching it no matter how affordable it becomes

@Buccigross I dont agree with this at all, reducing “elites”, whatever that means, to some group-think, organized population. It’s just human nature across the board.

interesting post. I recently saw Hamilton for the first time (July) and thought it was excellent. I am not a Broadway snob in the slightest What i found remarkable was the composition of the crowd. All kinds of folks there, even kids. Was not expecting that. Tix affordable too

I agree with Rob's assessment. I will add though...that After George Floyd's death in 2020, that is when the race essentialism, DEI and the open hatred of America blew up to be mainstream. THAT is when I recall Lin-Manuel Miranda began participating in the struggle-session- apologies.

I loved it when I saw the very last preview. But the second time I saw it, I was in the middle of chemotherapy treatment and was so achingly bored. I was struck by how dull the costumes and sets were and how all the choreography was painfully and unyieldingly symmetrical.
