The reason that you don't have certain excellence that you want is because you are afraid of getting criticized. You are afraid of the judgment that comes with it. You are afraid of standing out. There are 2 categories of things in this world: 1) Things that are up to you 2) Things that are not up to you Which category does your reputation sit in? Your reputation is not up to you. I'm the one who associates your reputation with something, not you. You just do things. What's up to you? How you act. Your decisions. Your actions. That is up to you. Your reputation is not up to you. Here's how I know that: You all have a reputation about me and it's not in my control. I get to say and do whatever I say and do up here. I am in control of saying it. I am in control of doing it. The moment words leave my lips, who has control over what is done with those words? You! You are in control of what you think of me. I had a junior coach tell me something once that was an incredible mindset shift in how to be more consistent and move on from the bad games. He told me: - 20% of the games you play, you’ll be at your best. Total flow state. - 20% of the games you play, you’ll fight it. Legs will be heavy, hands won’t be there. - The other 60% will be determined by your habits. And in that 60% middle - the better your practice habits, the more you’ll play towards that top 20%. The worse your practice habits, the more you’ll play towards the bottom 20%. We had performance coach Matt Fornataro on the podcast and we talked about consistency of performance. There’s only ONE goal you need to have as a baseball player. It’s not throwing the hardest. Or having the highest EV. Or having the most HB on the sweeper. It’s this ⬇️ The day after people hail and gather to witness the pinnacle of competition, this felt like an important message to share Especially with a lot of players starting their seasons this week. Don’t mistake this for me saying that trying to better yourself physically, improve specific things about your game or develop as an individual are bad. They most certainly are not. (I literally have an offer where I give guys individual development plans lol) But that needs to be separate from the game itself. When the game comes around, that’s your time to enjoy the hell out of competing with your teammates. Your freaking boys. The guys you PUT IN all that work with. Just focus on winning. Winning fixes everything. I promise you. Focus on that. Nothing else.

So much mental game gold here from Scottie Scheffler after winning The Masters. My takeaways: 1. Preparation builds confidence. Want to go into anything feeling more confident? Know deep down that you prepared as best as you possibly could. Having a personal ‘Checklist for Success’ of the things you do that are 100% in your control that leads to the best you showing up is huge here. 2. Process over Outcome mentality. When we are ruthlessly focused on our process (the action steps that are in control), the outcomes we want (not totally in our control) come our way as a by-product, especially in the long run. 3. Feeling nervousness, anxiety, fear, etc., is normal when competing. All athletes experience those emotions, especially in big moments. The best of the best have learned how to use those emotions to enhance their performance, rather than be held by back them. When you combine all of that, you allow yourself to find out how good you can be and you more and more consistently show up at your best, when it matters most. Scottie being the best in the world is not on accident. It’s clear that he’s very intentional and on purpose with how he approaches the mental side of the game.

The problem with sleeping on the LEFT side is that the liver is located in the upper quadrant, when you sleep on the left for 6-7 hours, due to gravity, the liver can actually COMPRESS the heart - which you don't want happening Solution? Before you go to bed, obviously don't sleep on your stomach but rather SLEEP ON THE RIGHT! A question I often ask ballplayers: What is the most important time during a game? Answers I often get are the beginning of the game, the last few innings of the game, or any big moment in the game. All good answers, but all wrong answers. THE MOST important time of the game is the time in between pitches. Ballplayers should be looking to win this time by being in complete control of their breath, self-talk, and focus. As the great Ken Ravizza would often say, “You have to control yourself so that you can control your performance.” Well, when you control and WIN the time in between pitches, you drastically increase your odds for success, especially if your competition isn’t doing that. So, the next time you step on the field, be on purpose with what you do in between pitches. Your results will no longer happen by accident…they will happen by intention. *The same applies to the time in between shots, plays, etc., based on whatever sport you play.
