Billy Bob Thornton revealed Andy Griffith once ignored him when he tried to introduce himself on the set of Matlock. Billy Bob Thornton: I went over to him and I said, "Mr. Griffith, uh, my name is..." [mumbling] You know, just kind of mumbling and everything. And I said, "I just want to tell you that those comedy records you used to do, uh, it's one of the reasons I started acting." And he looked at me and just kind of shook his head like that and walked away. Kathy Bates: No. Billy Bob Thornton: So you cut to years later, and I directed him in a movie. And by then he'd called me, we'd gotten to know each other, but I never mentioned being on Matlock. And one day I said, "So you know, Andy, the first time I ever met you, uh, I had a little tiny part on an episode of Matlock." And I said, "I came up to you and you... I stuck my hand out and you wouldn't shake my hand." And... [chuckles] "You just kind of shook your head and walked away, and I was devastated." He goes, "What episode was that?"
