Wale Edun: I think we need to grow the economy. In order to grow the economy, we need to find funding on the government side. Yes, there is a role for the government to play in critical infrastructure funding. The so-called pillars for investment, and in order to do that, we need to boost revenue. So we really need to use automation, digitisation, even AI and other technology to increase government revenue, and he [Oyedele] is clearly an expert in the tax and fiscal area. That's his training, that's his background, and that's his most recent task that the government has given him. The next step, and it must come quickly and at scale, is to have investment that increases productivity, grows the economy, creates jobs, and gives people income that reduces poverty, and I must emphasise this. PROJECT UPDATE: Adeniji Adele Drainage Construction The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources is reconstructing the entire drainage network around Adeniji Adele. The State Government realized that a greater part of the old channel has failed and sunk well below the tidal height which was the reason for the constant flooding usually experienced even without the rains. The project is in two folds: 1. Construction of a sump and installation of pumping station that has the capacity of 3000 cubic meter per hr. 2. Comm. says the State Government will continue to pay special attention to waste conversion The quest to make good use of the high solid waste generated in Lagos State got another boost on Tuesday as the state expressed readiness to partner with some Sweden organizations on how to turn both solid waste and liquid waste to energy across the metropolis. Speaking during the meeting at Alausa, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab said the state will continue to pay special attention to waste management adding that waste is not a waste but remain one of the best resource every where. He said Waste to energy is a project that the State Government is willing to embark on in order to move the narrative forward in a progressive and productive way. "Our resolve from the beginning of this tenure is that whatever we have to engage in to manage and deploy our solid and liquid waste as a resource is a priority for this government as it will save Lagos but other neighbouring state" he said. The Commissioner stated that the Ministry which is a public facing ministry has resolved to embrace any project that will cut the carbon foot print in the state. He said the state being a coastal state is faces alot of challenges, one of which is the Atlantic Ocean rising at the peak of the rainy season adding that the state is also at the end of numerous tributaries where water is discharged into the lagoon all of which could lead to flooding in the state. He said lagos generates between 13,000 to 14,000 tonnes of waste per day and the state is open to suggestions about possible productive ways to turn it into a Resources and move the state forward. Wahab said lagos as a State is working to decongest the roads and make Lagos a 21st century mega city saying that the cause and effect on the environment is that these moves help to reduce the emissions on the long run. According to him, As a result of current energy crisis in Nigeria, this has caused the spike in the cost of PMS and its multiple effects on the economy. So if the Lagos State Government can go ahead with this project. it will solve half of the problem in the PMS high price in Lagos. "This project is something we have to pursue deliberately and diligently. This is because while the government on its own part is trying to push out CNG at lower cost, conversion of waste to energy will also be an option especially for public transport in Lagos" Wahab said Lagos account for over 50% of the vehicular traffic in the country with the smallest land mass as well as 22million people which is 10% of the country’s population being inhabited in with less than 3,600 square kilometers of land, stressing that the project is not an option but a necessity. He recalled that earlier in the year, the state government had been in consultation with two Dutch companies one which will turn waste to energy and the other which will deal with electronic waste, adding that the state can indeed change the notion that waste is not a waste but a resource. The head of the delegation, representative of the Consul of Sweeden and the Business Promotion Officer, Sweden Embassy Abuja, Ms. Sara Ibru noted that the Lagos Government is known to be very pro - active in all its endeavours and that the Swedish Organizations are willing to collaborate with Lagos State to turn solid and liquid wastes into valuable resources. The facility will include a modern astroturf pitch, changing rooms, and spectator stands, and is designed to support both Premier League matches and community sports programs. Hon. Baba Jamal, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East Constituency, called the project the “heart of Nima.” He pledged that it will be completed within 12 months and that contractors will be paid on schedule. Under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Federal Government is committed to completing the National Library Headquarters in Abuja. Over the past few months, the Federal Ministry of Education has held several meetings with members of the National Library team and its contractors to discuss the resumption of the project. The project, which was designed in 1981 and began construction in 2006, is the third (3rd) of three national monuments (the National Ecumenical Centre and the National Mosque) that has yet to be completed. This week, my team and I toured the project site with the CEO of the National Library, the project’s architect, and contractor to assess the progress made before construction paused in 2012. By June 2025, we will proceed with Phase 1 of the project, which will include the completion of Basement Levels 1 and 2, the Ground Floor, the Second Floor, and the building's external works and furnishings. Mr. President is deeply passionate about Nigeria’s human capital development, of which education is an integral part. The President has also instructed TETFund to allocate funding towards the project to ensure its resumption and completion. With a National Library, we can provide all Nigerians with a communal learning environment to help them grow and become their best selves.

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday charged Heads of Agencies/Parastatals of government to renew their determination to build a Lagos that is not only the commercial hub of Nigeria but also a model of good governance and sustainable development for the entire continent. The Governor who spoke through the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab at the closing ceremony of the maiden retreat for Heads of Agencies/Parastals held at Jubilee Charlet, Epe, said that working with an unwavering focus on delivering exceptional results in Lagos is most expedient. "I want to express my sincere gratitude to each of you for your tireless dedication and service to the people of Lagos; This retreat is a crucial opportunity for us to pause, assess our progress, and re-evaluate our priorities to ensure we are effectively achieving meaningful outcomes for our community" he said. He said government had consistently emphasized that good governance is a continuous process and the ultimate objective is to transform Lagos into a 21st-century economy that is inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable for all its citizens. He added that the decisions everyone make today will have lasting consequences for the future. He stressed that government is fully dedicated to leveraging technology to improve governance saying the Lagos Smart City initiative is not merely a concept, it is actively being implemented. He emphasized that the government is actively digitizing government services, implementing e-governance solutions, and ensuring that every agency embraces a modern, data-driven approach to its operations. Sanwo-Olu mentioned the LAG ID Project as an example which government is employing to build a unified identity system to make it easier for Lagosians to access government services seamlessly. He described it as the kind of forward-thinking initiative everyone need to embrace across all sectors. According to him, "As heads of agencies, you are custodians of public trust; The decisions you take, the policies you implement and the services you deliver directly impact the lives of Lagosians" "This is why we cannot afford to be complacent. We must challenge ourselves to think bigger, work smarter and serve better. The Governor who appreciated the organizers for bringing together the heads of government agencies to share insights, challenge assumptions, and enhance service. He reiterated that delivery is crucial because Lagos is a dynamic state that demands a proactive and agile approach in governance. In 2027, we will be going to the polls to ensure the continuation of good YORUBA leadership that will govern the affairs of Lagos either as indigene or visitors! In my remarks, I reminded everyone that Nigeria, today, is a nation that requires unity—from Sokoto to Borno, Nassarawa to Anambra, and Rivers to Lagos. We must unite for the shared purpose of establishing competent leadership that possesses the capacity, compassion, and commitment necessary to ensure good governance. This leadership must prioritise addressing pressing issues such as security, poverty, education, healthcare, and hunger. We must transform our politics from a focus on transactions and rent-seeking to one that utilises our nation’s resources to create wealth for all citizens. We must act now to ensure that all regions of Kenya benefit from a truly broad-based government. It is unacceptable that, in the 21st century, parts of the former Eastern and North Eastern provinces still lack basic infrastructure and remain excluded from the national grid. This is a direct result of the commitment of Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu Babajide Sanwo-Olu , to restore order and ensure sanity in our environment across the state. From drainage upgrades to the clearing of illegal structures and the transformation of under-bridge spaces, we are seeing visible improvements. Flood-prone areas are being addressed, public infrastructure is being protected, and residents are already experiencing better living conditions. This project is about long-term value.
