If single payer were truly cheaper and better, it would be offered voluntarily. As an opt in service. Competing on price and quality like anything else that actually works. But that’s never even considered, because the moment consent is allowed, the illusion collapses. People wouldn’t choose it. So instead, it’s imposed. Payment is mandatory. Exit is forbidden. And when quality drops, care is rationed, and wait times explode, you’re told to ignore your own experience and be grateful because it’s “free” after taking a third of your income. This isn’t admitting error. It’s surrendering reason for pandering. It’s betting that people won’t notice the contradiction between the promise and the reality. And after all these years, that’s the real tragedy: not ignorance, but willful refusal to learn.

I can tell you do not know much about Medicare nor what you are promoting. 1. It's not free you pay a deductible. 2. You pay a premium monthly. 3. It does not cover medications unless you purchase another plan. 4. It does not cover MD visits unless you buy an additional plan. 5. It does not cover dental or vision you need to purchase another supplemental plan. 6. You will pay 20% of all hospital bills and you are limited on to 30 days inpatient or you are responsible for 100% of the bill or you can purchase the supplemental plan.

Because you’ll never suffer under it.

Medicare for all. And end Medicare Advantage! MA uses more Medicare dollars than the traditional plan, while denier and limiting care. It’s a scam to enrich the health insurance companies.

CA resident; ive changed my mind on this also; single male in 20s healthcare works; married w/ 2 young kids - its a shitshow; wife spent > 200hrs this year fighting w/ insurance on pre-auths; billing codes, referrals ect.. insane; not to mention cost as % of income for the policy

As an American expat in a country with Universal Healthcare I couldn’t agree more. When I speak to family in the US about the costs and complexity of their medical care it’s dumbfounding. Tom take a look at how we do single-payer in Australia. I think you’ll be impressed.

Absolutely. We need to take the profit out of the system. It may be best to have a phased- in approach but it has to happen. It's the only way to ensure everyone has high quality healthcare. Medicare Advantage plans need to be ended. That costly experiment has failed.

You need a revolution - a healthcare revolution.

Tom, there will be resistance, but the details are not tricky. Every other OECD nations offers universal healthcare. Look beyond our borders for role models. If not, look at Medicare and expand it. It's not difficult.
