When John Williams first played the SUPERMAN march for Richard Donner, they said the music literally “says” the word “Superman,” which convinced everyone it was the definitive theme.

James Gunn did it. There’s something for the Donner fans. There’s something for the Snyder fans. There’s even John William’s iconic theme. AND he made it his own. Superman is SO BACK.

Superman was released OTD in 1978 My inner 7 year old still remembers the thrill as John Williams' score starts to build after Christopher Reeve says 'Night'. When he smiled down the lens, I felt Superman was smiling at me! It's the perfect ending to a perfect movie #Superman

The opening credits for Superman (1978) are second to none, in my opinion. John Williams composed the legendary main theme, whose unforgettable opening notes echo “Su-per-man.”

Man of Steel (2013) is the first Superman film in history not to feature John Williams’ iconic theme. Composer Hans Zimmer refused to use even a single note of the classic march because he wanted to completely cut ties with the past versions.

The opening score to Superman: The Movie (1978) is, in my opinion, the single greatest movie theme ever made. It builds, getting better and better as it goes on, flying through space as the credits swoop onto the screen. John Williams finest work for me, amazing piece of music🤌🏻

For all the things I’ve said about Superman (which I still love) and the DCU, make no mistake, this theme is woven in my soul

SUPERMAN II was released 45 years ago today. Richard Donner had completed most of the film before being fired by the producers. Richard Lester was brought in to finish it, resulting in one of the most famous behind-the-scenes controversies.

All the Superman director had to say was that Superman is a great movie for everyone, regardless of race, sex or politics, who aspires to be the best version of themselves. Instead he said it was about immigration and completely political. Huge whiff:
