When Labour say 'devolution', what they really mean is more politicians, higher taxes, and more interference in our lives. They'll let mayors put our taxes up, but never cut them. Taking more of people's money and calling it 'empowerment' is completely outrageous.

This is establishment role playing drivel… We’ve seen enough of this over decades to know that none of you mean anything you say. In particular the Tories. The Tories are a party of pretence. You pretend to be a party of low taxes and a smaller state. Your record in power proves the complete opposite. And then on the subject of immigration? You’re complete liars and traitors. Your old boss, Boris, the one you were advising, should be in prison for his crimes against the British people.

Have you examined the financial competence of county councils or mayoral areas ? There’s many technical bankrupt and all have misused public funds through crazy pfi projects or concessionary loans never repaid Scotland’s NIB or Woking Council are good examples of how to waste taxpayers money @afneil @JChimirie66677

Labour's devolution plans are the formal process to hand over control of the occupied territories to the colonist settlers. Open surrender of British land to foriegn invaders. We need the restoration of capital punishment for treason as a priority

They also mean abrogate their duty. If devolved governments overspend or set high taxes they can sit back and say it’s devolved government’s fault - “weren’t me, Gov!”. Shysters the lot of them.

Devolution is a bad thing, it just means more incompetence, political corruption, bureaucracy all at a huge taxpayer cost

It’s so obvious ‘devolution’ does not work! Look at Scotland and Wales - basket cases.

We need less government not more. The current huge administration and devolved governments have not improved peoples lives and the cost is astronomical. The government @JohnHealey_MP are planning to spend £1.3 trillion of taxpayers money with many departments unable to pass audit

Concentration of power in one person - a Mayor is not devolution. Mayor decisions will override an entire body of elected local Councillors. Its de-devolution of powers.

Rishi Sunak moving the Treasury to Darlington actually targeted the problem: forcing the bureaucrats who hold the purse strings out of SW1 into a Northern town. A "No. 10 North" in Manchester is just an executive satellite office in an already booming city. Substance vs optics.

Citizens are most powerful (and dangerous to a Labour government) when they coalesce at the local level, therefore, more local government is needed to oversee us.

Labour wants devolution. So let devolve the north of England to its own Parliament, its own PM, its own MPs and free the south! They can have Andy, we'll have Kemi. Job done! What do you think Katie?

Towns do not need Mayors. Letchworth Garden City had a Mayor, and we voted out the post of Mayor, because it was a waste of tax payers money. We have Councillors to lead over local matters, some of whom earn fortunes. They want Mayors, to bypass democracy, install left extremism

You forget that it is also easier to spread the responsibility around so no accountability. It is always Somebody Else’s Fault. Planning issues re data centres in Scottish Central Belt a perfect example.
