McDonald’s key breakthrough came with their “Speedee Service System” in 1948, which revolutionized fast food by emphasizing efficiency and consistency. The real expansion began when Ray Kroc partnered with the McDonald brothers in 1954, franchising their concept nationwide.

McDonald's was founded by Richard and Maurice McDonald in 1940, in San Bernardino, California, initially as a drive-in restaurant called "McDonald's Bar-B-Q." The brothers streamlined their operation in 1948 by focusing on a simple menu of burgers, fries, and drinks, implementing a systemized approach to fast food that greatly reduced service time, which they called the "Speedee Service System." In 1954, Ray Kroc, a milkshake machine salesman, discovered the McDonald brothers' restaurant and saw potential in franchising the concept. Kroc opened the first McDonald's franchise in Des Plaines, Illinois, in 1955. He later bought out the McDonald brothers for $2.7 million in 1961 and turned McDonald's into a global franchise empire. Under Kroc’s leadership, McDonald's expanded rapidly, introducing innovations like the iconic Golden Arches logo and the introduction of the Big Mac in 1967. By the 1980s, McDonald's had become a worldwide symbol of fast food, with locations across the globe. The company introduced breakfast menus, salads, and healthier options in response to changing consumer tastes and health concerns. Today, McDonald's operates over 40,000 restaurants worldwide, making it one of the largest fast-food chains in the world.

There's an old gentleman that told me why they have billions, might not be true but yea... He said it was because of real estate.
