That was a South Korean student named Kim Dae-hyung. In the immediate aftermath, Kim expressed that it was a fantastic, dream-like moment for him. He noted that he felt no ill will from Jackson and even jokingly commented that he felt his unexpected appearance "improved the show." Over the years, reports from people close to him said that as Kim grew older, he felt deeply embarrassed by his reckless and dangerous stunt, and avoids discussing the incident altogether. Immediately following the concert, the South Korean event organizers and local police were furious about the security breach and planned to sue Kim and press criminal charges on him. But the student was spared from legal consequences entirely when Michael Jackson himself personally stepped in upon hearing that the organizers wanted to punish the student. Jackson released a signed statement explicitly asking the authorities to show mercy: "The moment he took my hand and looked into my eyes, I knew intuitively that he didn't mean any harm. He was just a fan who loved me... He's just a young student who came up there out of love for me. I don't want him punished in any way, so please do not file a lawsuit or do anything that would harm him." Jackson also added that thanks to the student, they ended up creating an "unexpected, much more emotional, and dramatic performance" and stated that he was ultimately grateful to him.
