When performance SUVs started to become a trend, BMW built this V8 monster in response to ML55. When BMW launched the X5 in 1999, it invented the idea of the “Sport Activity Vehicle.” But in 2004, they went one step further with the 4.8is. Under the bonnet sat a... naturally aspirated N62 V8 making 360 HP which is in the facelifted model in place of the older M62, paired with sport suspension, unique styling, and massive 20-inch wheels. It was one of the first SUVs that could actually handle twisty roads better than the average bloated and slower lumps. Four doors, a fastback roofline, no B-pillar, and frameless windows, none of which existed together in one car before this. The CLS 500 came with the 5.0L M113 V8, 306 HP and 460 Nm, fitted with two spark plugs per cylinder for a more even burn across the combustion cycle. It was built on the W211 E-Class platform but with completely different proportions and a lower, more aggressive seating position with 4 seats, not 5. That made it feel like a different car entirely. Most buyers chose the diesel because it was cheaper to run. The ones who chose the V8 got the engine the car was always meant to have.

The E46 M3 GTR exists because BMW Motorsport needed an engine that did not exist. The P60B40 V8 was developed specifically to homologate the car for racing, and it never appeared in any other BMW road model. It was compact, lightweight and built for sustained high-rpm use rather than everyday refinement. This engine was not a variant of something else. It was a purpose-built solution to a single problem, to BEAT PORSCHE. That is why it disappeared once the problem disappeared. The GTR did not create a new direction for BMW. It marked a moment when the brand allowed motorsport to override normal product logic completely.

The E39 525i is not the car you buy when you want an E39. The 530i has more power. The 540i has the V8. The M5 has the S62. The 530d and 525d have torque and efficiency. I went to Universal Soul Circus last night. Brought back so many memories. But I can’t help it. I noticed the take over. Lots of Caribbean, Latin and African heritage being promoted in the performance. Not enough soul in the performance…..like it was when I was a kid. At the end they came out and every performer had a flag. It was only one American flag.

The 760i featured the new 6.0-litre N73 V12, also seen in Rolls Royce, producing 438 HP with direct injection, one of the most sophisticated naturally aspirated V12s ever fitted to a saloon. Effortless thrust, whisper-quiet refinement (all though this one is a little modified), and the ability to cruise at 250 km/h without breaking a sweat. Sitting here watching my Cybertruck charge with the mountains of Utah in the background, it hit me again… I really believe this is the most beautiful Tesla ever made. Every angle is different. It looks futuristic without trying too hard, and it fits just as well in the middle of a city as it does surrounded by nature like this. What makes this truck special is so much more than just the stainless steel or design. For me it’s how capable and practical it is. Long road trips, hauling gear, camping, tough weather, and FSD… it feels like THE one vehicle built to do almost everything. I’ve owned and driven many Teslas over the years, and every one has been amazing in their own unique way, but the Cybertruck is the first one that genuinely makes me stop and look back every time I park it. Driving across the U.S. in this beast has only reinforced that feeling. And to me, the Cybertruck is the best vehicle Tesla has ever built.
