12-year-old Imrain Paktiawal told CBS News' Camilo Montoya-Galvez he still has no explanation for how his father, Mohammad Nazeer Paktiawal, died just one day after being taken into ICE custody in Texas. The 41-year-old Afghan immigrant was detained while preparing to take his children to school and died the next day at a Dallas hospital. His family says he was healthy and that he came to the U.S. legally under the Biden administration's Operation Allies Refuge, which welcomed tens of thousands of Afghans it evacuated from Afghanistan following the Taliban takeover. ICE said Paktiawal's parole status expired on Aug. 20, 2025 and that he was detained after two arrests by local authorities on fraud and theft charges. He was not convicted.

He was walking with his 14 year old sister when the mexicans pulled up on them and asked them where was they from, he told him he’s not in a gang and they still proceeded to chase the children gunning them down. He died and his 14 year old sister was also shot.

In 2019, he was back in court for nearly kicking a police officer to death, for which he received a 6-year prison sentence. Walid S. was never even charged with manslaughter for his alleged role in beating Niklas to death. Instead, his charge was reduced to "aggravated bodily harm resulting in death" because Niklas had not died right away.

On June 26, an all-hands fire broke out inside a basement apartment in a private dwelling in Queens. FDNY Fire Marshals determined the cause of the fire to be a lithium-ion battery that was charging in the kitchen of the fire apartment. The fire trapped a 48-year-old man inside the home, who had to escape through a bedroom window. The victim later died at a hospital.
