Netherlands: Massive wind turbine crashes to the ground as a result of, you guessed it... the wind. 🤡 Wind turbines: Completely useless when the wind isn't blowing, and apparently even more useless when the wind is blowing. And to think we're closing down all our coal mines and power plants—which provided cheap and abundant energy—and replacing them with these expensive, inefficient and intermittent monstrosities, while China and India build coal plants like there's no tomorrow.

Watch as #smoke 💨 from Canadian #fire 🔥 moves away, then backtracks towards Florida. This is due to the famous #Bermuda high and something we call atmospheric wave breaking where pieces of the jet stream break off and then meander. In this case the smoke gets caught up in this process and attempts to get back to the SE US by late week. By then it will be thin, diffuse and barely noticeable but it’s a good lesson that the atmosphere is a fluid and “It’s all connected!”

There's no longer a spectacle imposed from outside. The spectacle is now internal, it constantly demands an active response from us, our playful participation as subjects. No one chooses to enter cyberspace anymore, we choose to leave it. Baudrillard had already described a "culture of tactile communication," a festival of stimuli and miniaturised tests. That's the thread Fisher picks up when he links it to the rise of the touchscreen.

What’s your attitude when you get a windy day on the course? One of the best things about playing links golf is you get used to the wind. You go from fearing it to craving it. (When the course is made for wind.) We had a super windy day at Kennemer in Holland. Had 180 yards straight into the breeze on 9, went with a dead hand 7 wood and struck gold. A great shot is always satisfying. But the more variables you take on, the more satisfying it is. Learning to treat wind as an opportunity to really play golf completely changes your enjoyment level.
