Some idiot has painted a cross on one of the hedgehogs, presumably so they can identify it, for some reason. If you want to identify hedgehogs, do it the proper way: pay attention to their size, shape and albedo. It's not hard if you're not lazy. Painting them is a bad thing. Don't handle hedgehogs (or *any* other wild animals) unless you need to and don't paint a target on them to mark them out by sight or smell to predators. It's stressful for them, the paint might be toxic and it can make it hard for them to curl up when they sense a threat. Just don't fuck with wild animals at all, they are not toys. They are not here for our entertainment. We should be delighted when they visit, not mark them as property.

I know this may not be a big deal to some but I noticed it immediately. The eye contact. One thing that was instilled in me at a young age was the importance of making eye contact when someone is speaking to you. It’s a simple habit, but it says a lot. It shows respect. It shows that you’re present and paying attention. That’s why it’s something I emphasize at every clinic I run. When I’m teaching, I expect athletes to look me in the eye. Not because I’m trying to be super strict, but because learning how to communicate, listen, and show respect will take them much further than anything I can teach them about fielding a ground ball or swinging a bat. While I don’t know Coach Murphy or Jocelyn Briski, the fact that this is something she naturally does tells me a lot about her character and the program that helps shape her. Softball is about so much more than softball.

When I get the opportunity to work with a hitter, inevitably the first thing to clean up is how they interact with the ground. Usually, when they land their lead foot, they’ve already begun to swing. I’ll ask them “I want you to do your stride, then when you land, stop” I then ask, while they hold their strike position: “could you do a squat from there?” It’s usually an obvious “no” I like to use this image and clip I made of Cal via Craig Hyatt ‘s timeline (his timeline is a treasure trove of video) Cal could easily do a squat or jump up in the air from here.
