Yesterday, I met with folks at UnitedAgainstPoverty who are worried about how the shutdown will impact them. This is why ensuring families have access to SNAP is an emergency situation. ⬇️ SNAP provides about $6 a day for food—which is just enough to help keep families from going hungry, but never enough to get ahead. If funds don’t go out this weekend, millions of kids, seniors, families, and people with disabilities will wake up Saturday without money for groceries. This crisis can be averted. Trump’s USDA must release contingency funds already approved by Congress to every single state!

SNAP recipient: I work as a substitute teacher, so I only get paid on to the days that I work. My husband also is permanently disabled, and he receives monthly Social Security benefits. With the combined income, it's not enough to cover the cost of food for that month. So I rely on SNAP benefits to provide food for my house so that me, my husband, and my children will be able to eat.

Did you know New York City rolled out a prepaid food card program for immigrants that basically just arrived. They were given 65% more than American citizens get with EBT or snap benefits.
