That was big of him but part of racing, be it cross country or marathon is being able to navigate the course.

Coordination is just as important as speed and endurance.

His call to do with it as he pleases, nevertheless this is dumb behaviour that only encourages entitlement. It’s on the runners themselves to know and follow the course - not their competition. Going wrong way is in no way different than other challenges e.g. injury/collapse.

So dumb, he made a mental error. That’s part of the race

The idea that sports are about more than just winning or losing really came to life in that moment
