Today, I decided to visit the owner of a temporary structure that had been erected on a tree along Jogoo Road, with the intention of offering him and his wife a better housing solution while also protecting the life of the tree. Unfortunately, the family was not at home during my visit, as they had gone out to hustle. I will, however, return later to assist them in relocating from this Avoidable form of housing to a more Affordable and dignified one, and also support them in starting a business to sustain their livelihood.

NEW: Arab Dearborn Heights businessman Sam Hussein and a local tree farmer team up to cover the cost of a $10,000 Christmas tree, which now stands in front of city hall. The men decided to take action after the yearly tradition was almost ruined. The tree order, which was placed by the previous administration, had delays and was not going to make it in time for a tree lighting ceremony this week. That is when Huff's Tree Farm and Hussein teamed up to help. "I thought it was the right thing to do given the circumstances. They had a tree-lighting ceremony set up for this Friday and they were really on a time crunch and this is our way of giving back," Hussein said. "I feel a good sense of pride being able to help the community, help our tree farm and kind of bring people together during this special time of year," Huff said.

The neighbor hired a company to remove their tree, they even have a 55ft bucket lift, and the workers seem to know what they are doing. Until you see they tied a small rope to the tree, they assure you it will pull the tree the other way and they’ve don’t it many times before. Now you use a tree in the middle of your living room, and the company is claiming it was an act of god, are they still responsible?

When this couple rented a hotel room they were told how many people could stay in the room, it was 4. They were also told that only paid guests could enjoy the amenities like the indoor pool. They ending up throwing a pool party for their daughter at the hotel pool. Management caught wind of what happened and asked them to leave the hotel, they were put on the do not rent list for this behavior. The man says that since there is no sign at the pool that doesn’t permit it, then it’s allowed and he’s refusing to leave the hotel, he even calls it a dump but got mad when they banned them. I’ve heard of people doing this before and having no problems, I wonder what inappropriate behaviors they were doing to get kicked out, was the man right though about the hotel not having a sign at the pool, that he should have been allowed to give his friends access to the pool even though they weren’t paying guests?

This herd of elephants had moved with clear purpose to the final resting place of Kegol, a well-known tusker who once dominated this landscape in the Mara North Conservancy. What followed was extraordinary. Members of the herd gently picked up fragments of Kegol's bones, lifting them with their trunks, carrying them briefly, touching and smelling them before setting them down again. Elephants are known to revisit the remains of deceased individuals, particularly those they were familiar with. This behaviour is widely understood as a form of recognition and remembrance - a response to death that reflects their deep social bonds, long memories, and emotional intelligence. At all our reintegration units the focus is on supporting the orphans as they transition back to the wild. For the female elephants this leads on to starting a family of their own. To date, we know of 77 calves born to elephants we’ve rescued and raised: their wild-living mothers choosing return, so that we might share in their joy. Three of the births in the last year have been in Umani. Babies Sulwe and Zigi, under the watchful gaze of mothers Sonje and Zongoloni, are two of them. They are thousands of miles away on a dream vacation to Jamaica. They book an Airbnb for the convenience. When they get there, they find out the resort they rented from is abandoned. There is not a soul there. The doors are open, yet it’s eerie, like a village that was evacuated due to an emergency.
