The region was named Palestine by the Romans after they conquered the area. Before that, the region was made up of several kingdoms, which were named after the 10 of the 12 Tribes of Israel (Jacob). The tribes were named after Jacob's (Israel's) sons. The area was the Promised Land that God gave to Abraham. Before that, the area was mostly held by the Cannanites, and the land was called Cannan. The Phoenecians also lived in the area along with other tribes. The Israelites (Hebrews) drove the Cannanites out of the land and took possession of the area according to God's promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel). The people who returned to the resettled Israel are not the same as those of the Promise of God. The Hebrews and the Israelites were in covenant relationship with God, a marriage covenant with Israel and Judah. Because of Israel and Judah turning their backs on God and worshipping false God's, God sent the Israelites into captivity and dispersed them all over the world. They formed a religion that consists of pagan theology and rabbinical law that became the Talmud. That is the basis of Judaism. The Jews are not the same as the Hebrews and Israelites of The Holy Bible. Judaism is fundamentally against Jesus as the Messiah. By rejecting God's only begotten Son, they reject God. The history of that region is deep and well worth learning.
