When Tom Cruise was cast as Lestat in Interview with the Vampire, even author Anne Rice doubted him then he crushed it so hard she publicly apologized.

Tom Cruise seems miscasted in all his roles before crushing them.

He did very well but there was a certain spirit lost ... the best Lestat is the one currently playing him.

From doubted to deadly charming… Tom Cruise really went full vampire method.

Tom Cruise was ok, but this man is the definitive Lestat in my book.

I think this movie would have been brilliant with the roles reversed…tom cruise as Louis instead. Brad Pitt would have made an amazing Lestat.

This is the only Vampire series that I could ever stand reading. The movies that came after this were not so good, all the books are pretty amazing material. There are some good movies in them.

Well Sam Reid recently crushed Tom’s Lestat! He’s brilliant just brilliant. Not only he looks exactly as Lestat in the books BUT also Sam’s voice & mannerism just exactly as in the books! I don’t think anyone comes close to him not even Tom.

I cannot believe none of these people knew about the incredible #Lestat in the new superior AMC #IWTV #InterviewWithTheVampire show.

Tom Cruise was the PERFECT choice to play Lestat. I'm still mystified that Anne Rice said she hated his casting. Personally I think she just said that to get publicity for the film. He was NOT miscast.

He ended up being the perfect Lestat

Why anyone underestimates Tom Cruise is beyond me. His range is incredible but people have a cartoonish view of him.

I loved the Anne Rice novels… and this was the one film/tv adaptation that did them justice. So sad that we didn’t get a couple more movies out of them with this cast….

What? He was horrible

Let's get one thing straight, Tom Cruise played Lestat. Sam Reid was possessed by Lestat.

Tom Cruise's Lestat is still the best portrayal of the character to this day. He's absolutely perfect. If anyone was miscast it was Antonio Banderas. Not because his acting was bad, but he just isn't Armand as he was described in the book.

I thought he sucked in this (and I'm NOT making a vampire reference here)

He is the best thing in the movie…him and Kirsten.

Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson are the new L/L

I agreed with her in her first comments - no Lestat, I then agreed totally with her public apology once I’d seen the film. This is the only time I ever saw Tom Cruise not play Tom Cruise.

Horrible movie. I was either laughing or sleeping

His performance in that was a bit too over the top, but it did liven up the film, which was quite bad overall I thought. Also standout performance by a tiny Kirsten Dunst!

Really? But Tom is a great actor.

Still does his own stunts too 👀

wtf it's the worst performance of his career

He was just perfect. And them Sam Reid got the role in the AMC tv show and he's just perfect-er

Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai is another. I was so skeptical but he crushed that one too

Best vampire laugh

I totally forgot these two were in a movie together lol

He was phenomenal.

Love Tom Cruise's performance. Perfect Lestat, his acting is not just about iwtv Lestat but you can see what's behind the character, he read all the available books and it shows💖 I never get tired of this movie

Steve Buscemi in pretty much every role he's ever had.

I feel like this underscores your joker theory @Kyrannio

Still the best adaptation of the book to date (TV show is unbearable to me). Except Antonio Banderas, who is almost as wrong as Armand as the guy in the TV show.
