as the son of an arborist, and as one who spent many days as a teen doing the actual digging for transplants like this - that looks like _way too small_ of a root ball 😬 That said, different tree families have different root propagation and it might be appropriate in this case

Absolutely better than cutting her down, however I'd be curious to know how the mycelium network and soil biology as a whole deal with this, along with the old tree.

Oak trees are easier to move than many other species. Their roots are fairly shallow. However, look how much of the roots were cut from these hundred year old oak trees. I hope they make it.
