Part of what's driving the Trump Admin's attacks on NOAA is they want to privatize the National Weather Service. They made it clear in Project 2025 — instead of weather forecasts & climate data being a public good, they want to sell it to the highest bidder. A corrupt bargain.

From the Tidal Basin looking toward the Jefferson Memorial, conditions are calm this morning, but a dangerous line of severe storms is expected to sweep through later today. School districts across the region are closing early, and major sites on the National Mall including the Washington Monument are shutting down early ahead of the threat. Forecasters warn the storms could bring hurricane-force wind gusts and the potential for long-track tornadoes. It’s the most significant severe weather threat for the D.C. metro since spring 2023.
