Growing up, my father had his favorite chair, kind of like Archie Bunker. The only time I ever saw him get up and exchange chairs was when the dog made it quite clear that she wanted to be in it. If me or my siblings asked …. He would look at the other empty chairs and nod.

Dogs don’t just “like” spots. They bond to safety patterns. When that pattern breaks (even by a cup of coffee) it stirs something deep. Follow for the things nobody taught us about what dogs really need.

This absolutely happens in my house. Only Bob's spot is whatever chair I'm actually sitting on. He'll paw at me until I move. But will he disturb Sheldon the cat? No, he will not.
