USS John Young (DD-973), I was a SWO on the John Young. The footage is likely from 1980s so a little before my time.
When my SSN stopped in Toulon we were given 12 hours liberty. Sailors from a USN surface ship told us they had been there a month.
I liked the "Port of Call - Bayonne" better.
The only thing that is missing is the shot of the sailors getting a shot of penicillin after the liberty is over!
I love how they used to sell enlistment! Just show them on liberty! Don't show them where they sleep on the ship or the scullery or chipping paint! Still it's not as bad as the Marine Corps one where they show a fantasy knight fighting monsters who turns into a Lance Corporal.
I looked it up, and it's from 1984. Several people have already mentioned USS John Young. Year after I came in. Need to show this to my son who's been active now for ten years.
They conveniently left out the part where you're cruising the IO for 90 days but hey, it's marketing 😎

Yeah, people will say that’s not all there was to being a Sailor, or Marine. And it wasn’t. But the 80’s WestPac’s were pretty darn good.
