Pretty obvious it would work better outside, but issues are, theft & it getting dirty. When inside it's less of to keep car cool then to keep dashboard cool so don't have hot steering wheel etc. Because after certain time the car would be cooking anyway. I used to put white blanket sheet on top of my dashboard & steering & it worked pretty well.

Mine are made to go inside of my car. Weatherguard sells sunshades for every window of my car.

Not all of the energy gets reflected some will be absorbed by the material and that will cause it to heat up. If your hot piece of fabric is inside your car it will obviously cause the inside to be hotter than if it was on the outside.
