Where does Ben Stokes rank among the best all rounders?

No idea what metrics you used but how the heck is KapilDev so below in the list!

Metrics are at the start. His raw numbers are just a bit down on some of the others. Tough gig being a fast bowler in Indian conditions.

An Australian comes up with a way of making Miller second on the list above Kallis and Sobers and that puts Botham and Stokes (below Tate!) outside the top ten. 🤣

I’m sick of this debate. Kallis played in era of the most statistics. Look at most ever of anything and it’s all players from his era… he played in every continent , against more teams and has the most MOM awards… just because he is not from the big 3 , he is always not rated

Kallis is at the top of the list though? I mention in the video that Sobers, miller, Imran and Kallis are the best and it’s good that the metric puts them up the top. They’re hard to split in my opinion.

And you missed my point… it’s not hard to split that when comparing players of different generations. Look who they played with or against !!!

Any list of allrounders without Sobers 1 and Kallis 2 isn't really worth considering

Outstanding player with a few Herculean match winning performances. However, as the gentleman’s rankings show, over a full career he was only the third best all rounder from Christchurch, NZ.

I’m sorry but your measurement suits bowling all rounders. No way ashwin or philander are better all round cricketers than stokes or vettori

Good to see Monty Noble in the top 10.

Happy to see Colin Miller in the list. My favorite cricketer growing up

Lol

Imran Khan and Keith Miller are the only 2 Test Cricketers with Batting Average above 35 and a Bowling Average below 25! Near miss for Jadeja with his impressive batting average of 38.27 and bowling average 25.12. @PaulDennett_

Of the ones I’ve seen (80s+..),on stats, impact/aura, longevity.. 1 - Kallis 2 - Botham 3 - Khan 4 - Pollock 5 - Hadlee 6 - Dev 7 - Stokes 8 - Klusener 9+ the rest.. Best bowler - Hadlee Best Batsman - Kallis Favourite - Klusener (Imo Akram is a bowler who could bat)

Very interesting. All I would say is it seems slightly skewed towards top level bowlers who could bat, I feel the bar should maybe be 30 for the average with the bat. I don't think it changes your assessment of his career. I just think the list is not an all rounder one

Wicket keeper batters should be considered all rounders. Especially with stumpings etc

Good to see you’ve got Miller up there, criminally underrated especially by recent generations. One of only a couple who could satisfy the old rule for all rounders that they’d be picked purely on the basis of either discipline.

Philander a better all rounder than Stokes, the poms will love that one 😂

Allrounder is someone who can win you a match with either of the 2 skills batting or bowling Tell me one test Kallis won with his bowling Or changed the course of the match or heroic bowling performance in defeat Kapil Dev 30 overs unchanged from one end and 10fer 1983 you 💩

You’re saying Chris Cairns is a better all rounder than Ben Stokes?

Gonna need a bigger whiteboard.

Using averages has lots of anomalies, 25% of Pollocks innings were not out for example and scored half the runs of Stokes in a similar number of matches

Stats always doesn't tell the right picture, we all know the impact of stokes in the field and in the dressing room as a leader, as a bowler, batsman, fielder. He creates chances out of nowhere, big match player who won england two cups. I rate him very highly

If your "formula" has Philander at 11 then it's clearly a useless pile of dogshit

Is this based on how much liked the player is liked by Australians because ranking Philander above Botham, stokes, Kapil Dev, Akram is lunacy. It's like you've never watched a game in your life.

I think its better to take players when they were at their peak years. Stokes really couldn't bat for the last 3 or 4 years. He was a hell of a player at his best.

I stopped looking at the formula when I saw that Sobers and Kallis were only 4 and 3. Flawed formula imo.

Nice one @PaulDennett_ We did a similar one yesterday more blind ranking and lesser nuanced

Hmmm, if that's Vernon Philander , I'd say he was more of a bowler who batted a little bit rather than an all rounder , I know he gets described that way . But 11th ? With a test average around 25 with the bat? Come on.

That is a list skewed towards bowling, Hadlee, Pollock and Davison were not good enough batters to be elite all rounders.

Love this for no other reason than how high Jadeja ranks. If fielding was included - however that might be measured - he’d be #1 (#imo) .

Longevity along with winning big moments was a big part of Stokes career and you have ignored both. And having Kallis as #1, then reverse engineering the rule would be a good place to start.

Yeah I think that’s a fair summary; absolutely not the best cricketer I’ve seen but absolutely is responsible for some of the best moments

Philander? Presume that’s not Big Vern. The list is a touch weird: Pollock being so high for 1…..

Waiting for the Indians to query how Shaun “tate” is above him at 20 🤣. But seriously - Philander at 11? How?!

The "English Tax" baked into an Aussies formular has English players like Botham, Flintoff, Stokes waaaay down the list and the Aussie inflation has Miller as a better allrounder than Sobers and Kallis 😂

That's a horrendous list.

You can't judge everything on stats. How many times did stokes get a breakthrough when england were struggling or get them to the finish line when they looked out of sight with the bat. Taken catches others couldn't dream of. This whole clip is a waste of time.

Curios where Vetorri features?
