Speaker Johnson finally said something true and accurate: "We have a duty" Yes, Congress has a duty to pass laws to deal with the migration situation. The Legislative branch has a duty to update our immigration laws, our asylum processes, our trade policies, our drug policies, our work visa policies, our climate policies, and our economic sanctions. Republicans continually block bills that would address the problem. They do not want it solved. They need the problem to campaign on as they have no other policies, no other plans, and no track record to campaign on. The Republican controlled House was the least productive in over 50 years. They are doing nothing for America. Increased migration isn't going away anytime soon. The number of displaced people is only going to increase. And the only way to slow that down is with actual policy changes, not a pointless wall. So yes, Mr. Speaker, you have a duty. The Democratic run Senate however, postponed their holiday break to work on bipartisan legislation to deal with the decades long problems at the border. Also while the Republican controlled house was on vacation, Blinken, López Obrador, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and White House homeland security advisor Liz Sherwood-Randall met in Mexico City to discuss “unprecedented irregular migration in the Western Hemisphere and identify ways Mexico and the United States could work together to address the issues. So just to put a fine point on it, the Republicans feel vacation is much more important than border security. The Republicans continually vote against any solutions to the border. The Republicans think the solution to problems at the border is to go there and take pictures for photo opportunities and selfies, diverting necessary resources from their doing their jobs to deal with your photo shoot. Republicans go on vacation and take photos at the border Democrats get the work done.
